as of about two days ago the photos I take with the company's nikon d70 have some kind of grid pattern of lines all over them. you can only see them if you zoom in certain distances. For example, when i open it in photoshop at 18% it looks normal, at 50% its fine, at 66% you can see fine lines in a grid pattern all over, and at 400% its obvious that there are lines there, its SO STRANGE. What is the deal? Anyone have an idea?

Thanks

It is probably not in your image but in your software/display/monitor.

As long as it is not there at 100% you donĀ“t need to worry.

It is also logical it is not there at 50%, then only every other pixel is displayed.

at 66% some interpolation needs to be done, or choices between pixels need to be made, this often results on jagged edges or aliasing.

I can see them both on the screen of my camera and on my computer screen and i had not ever seen them before, when i did some shots the other day which required alot of cropping not a single one came out because of really bad quality after cropping... i dunno its just confusing why i would suddenly be able to see all these lines :/

I think that Willem's got it about right. When the D70 came out, there was a whole lot of fuss over moire patterning. I think that that had more to do with the size at which the image was viewed. At sizes other than 25%, 50% and 100%, there can easily be all kinds of strange artifacts visible on the computer screen, due to the resizing and, as Willem mentions, interpolation.

I just realized that I only see the lines when I use my alien bees lighting setup. why would i only see them with that if its a problem with the software, do you think that the hot shoe or the lighting could cause that kind of thing??

Post a couple of examples with EXIF data intact. I'd love to look at one of the raw files if you shoot that mode.
