I'm going to submit to the Costco International Photo Contest and I am having trouble deciding which shot to send in. There are no real stipulations... basically they just want you to send in your best shot. I have narrowed it down to these...

#1 -

#2 -

#3 - ---void---

#4 - ---void---

#5 -

#6 -

which one? oh, and if theres one i didnt post here feel free to mention it :)

edit:
i do believe that it will be judges... so it wont just be the general public. it doesnt say anything about the background of the judges though. also, another thing i just realized is that i have to provide that name and address of anybody in the photo... so that means that #3 and #4 are no longer possibilities.

thanks so much

Four!
07/02/2007 02:00:39 PM · #3
Five

ETA: I love the emotional feeling created by #4 it's certainly a powerful photo, but it's a tad over-exposed. For technical merits as well as visual appeal, I prefer #5.

I like 2 the best. Good Luck!

#2 ... I have a very strong connection to that image ...
07/02/2007 02:13:57 PM · #6
2 for me too.

They're all great shote, but this is a competition you're going for...

#2 is a great photo and will get you your wow factor.

4 is cute, but the lighting will kill you
6 is political, and just an OK shot. (it's a picture, not a photograph :)
1,3 and 5 are great photographs, but probably too artsy for a general competition such as costco to appreciate. (although 1 and 5 are my faves...)

4

#4 is a nice shot. But like DowseDesigns said, it is a bit overexposed. #'s 2 and 5 are the best, the edge goes to 2...personal preference. You can't go wrong either way.

#4 or #2

I think #4's overexposure would be overshadowed by it's subject, depending upon the judges.

#5!! Althoug I agree with the others on #2, I think #5 is stronger and should do better at a competition.

#4.

Costco is an everyday people kind of place. This is a shot that will appeal to everyday people, methinks. And really to just about everybody.

That said, I like 'em all.

2, 3, 4 or 5. Definitely not 1 (too grainy) or 6 (nothing special).

Personally I like 2 the best. The frame's a bit heavy for my taste is all.

4 is a great subject, but there's something off about the composition, I think.

3 and 5 are beautiful but maybe too artsy (who knows?).

#4 definitely overpowers everything else for me. Sometimes emotions trump technicals...

#2 is (very) good, but if your title isn't included it will lose considerable 'punch'.

#5 comes in a close third place, if that helps.

ETA - Please let us know what YOU decide, and what color your (real-life!) ribbon is! ;)

Can you tell from the submission rules who will be judging? This could better help you determine which one to submit. I argree with what has been said above, but if the judging will not be the public and will be by judges that are photographers - I must say that #1 is my all time favorite of yours and one that I go back to and look at often and should be considered.

Here's a couple more from your porfolio I immediately thought of when I read your post:

The people are pretty unrecognizable here

Absolutely adore this one
