Hello,
Can anyone reccomend a good b&w conversion freeware plug-in for Photoshop Elements?

I've never Photoshop Elements, but does it not have a channel mixer that can do B&W conversion? (I'm just guessing though!)

Unfortunately there's no Channel Mixer! I think you're limited to just converting it to grayscale. :(

No, no, no convert to greyscale... BAD! LOL

You do have Hue/Sat layers...

Try the Hue/Sat method in this tut. //www.dpchallenge.com/tutorial.php?TUTORIAL_ID=43

Another method that might work, never tried it (especially on Elements) would be to make each color channel a layer via copy and paste and then "mix" them with layer transparencies.

Nevermind, I couldn't get that to work so well.

Joseph - I use Elements and you go to Hue/Saturation under colors and you can select the individual 'channels' that way. Good luck and PM me if you have more questions.

Then follow the recommendations by fotomann and you will be all set.

Virtual Photographer( //www.optikvervelabs.com/ ) is a free plugin . I'm pretty sure it'll work with elements. It's pretty cool for quick conversions.

True Series Conversion is free. I've used it for some time now. Sepia, Velvia, b/w with different color channels, etc. Works great.

This tutorial is awesome - I have been practicing with it for a while now. Many thanks Leroy for taking the time to write it.

Get the Virtual Photographer plugin from OptikVerve Labs.

It has some presets for B&W conversions using the red, green and blue channels. Or you can use the color picker to do some more tweaking.

Hey thanks for the link Leroy, I downloaded all of the extras and wow love it, now tell me that this is somehow legal for challenges.

You got DPP with the camera? I think it can do B&W with filters for JPG's as well as RAW. I don't do B&W much & when I do, I tend to hit it in the camera cause that is close enough for what I rarely need.

Definitely for advanced, I'd be careful with Basic challenge. Might want to run a ticket by SC.
