I have been with dreamstime for about one year. I recently started with istockphoto. For those of you who are in more than one, is it ok to post the same images on more than one stock site?

I had my entire portfolio on dreamstime, istock, and bigstock for 3 months. Made $70.

Moved it over to Alamy - made over $2,000 so far.

You really only need one. :-)

Doug, could you post a link to your Alamy portfolio? I'd be interested in looking at it.

Unless you opt for their "exclusivity" option you are free to post the same photo to as many sites as you want. I find that if I send the same batch of photos to different sites, they will not all accept the same ones.

I would definitely not post the same photos to a microstock site and a "macro" site like Alamy which offers both rights-managed and royalty-free images.

Maybe I am just a tad naive, but could you briefly tell me the big difference in macro sit and the royalty free sites?

A microstock usually prices the use of a photo at between $1-5 USD, and usually provides a smaller-size image which can be used in a variety of ways.

A rights-managed site will usually be licensing a larger image for a specific, limited use, for a fee of anything from $30-several thousand ...

It's more than just price though.
Its also usage rights.

Royalty free means that once they buy it, it's theirs to use for as long as they want for whatever purpose they choose.

Rights managed means that they can only use it for the use they purchased it for. If they use it again, they have to buy it again.

Microstocks are only royalty free.
Macrostocks give you the option of either or are Rights managed.

Not quite, there stipulations in the ToSes of each micro site.

Just spent an hour looking at this site, this looks so interesting...I have registered with the site and now need to get the first 10 images ready....

I reckon this thread should be bumped-I am sure there are loads of people on this site who would be interested in doing this....

Just wondering how many people on here are selling on Alamy??

I sell on Alany ( I use that very loosely since I do not have not had great success) and on several micros. I do not post the same pictures on the micros and Alamy, but any picture I submit to one micro, i submit to all the micros I am involved with. And as mentioned earlier, different sites reject different pictures. One site will reject one that is a great seller on another. You really never know what will be accepted, you just need to make sure the picture is in good focus, free from noise, and hopefully has some value to stock buyers (I know this is very subjective). I have enjoyed working with the micros. See my footer for the ones I work with. I really want to do better on Alamy, but I have not learned the secret of selling on that site yet. Anyway have any secrets that they want to share? I made it through evaluation process fine and even have most all my pictures accepted, they just dont' seem to sell very well and I have been with them for over a year.

I hope this helps.
