Apple has released the public beta of their Safari web browser for Windows.
It is FAAAASSSSSSTTTTTT! Pages load in less than a blink of the eye.
I don't normally use a Mac so I'm not used to using it, but I'm going to play with it to see if I like it. First thing I need to figure out is how to import my Internet Explorer Favorites. I see where I can import bookmarks, but I haven't figured out the favorites yet. But heck, I've only had it installed for ten minutes......

Figured it out! They are imported automatically. I just had to find them.

You should try it on a Mac!

My youngest daughter has a MacBook, and my olderst daughter is buying one within days. I'm thinking of eventually running OS X myself one day.

I installed it and agree it's fast. I find it annoying in minor respects though... Minimise & max it refuses to go back to full screen, the backspace does not work for back and the biggie for me ctrl-enter does not add the www & .com like FF/IE. Nothing you would not get used to after a while I guess.
Need to play more but at this point, I doubt it will move me from FF - although the speed is really really nice for a change.

Why even bother? Just type in "apple" or whatever and hit enter. Safari will assume you mean www.apple.com and fill that part in for you. |

That works for apple [for some reason I fail to understand :o)] but not for other sites; I just get the cannot open "//xxxxxx/" :-)
David could well be right and these could be beta bugs.

| Safari is probably on eof the worst browsers out there, don't know why some one would want to use it |

1. Frequent crashes on many sites, apart from Apple.com, and many are rendered wrong
2. Crashes on Windows authentication sites
3. Back button on mouse doesn’t work
4. Font smoothing is wonky
5. Awful UI
6. No tooltips available
7. Menus missing or totally useless
8. No title text
9. Pages frequently stall mid load
10. Slower than Internet Explorer 6

Apple has also announced that Safari will be fully-installed on the iPhone. This might be beta-testing the users as much as the software, giving them a practice version to acclimate them before the (scheduled) iPhone release later this month ... |

Chuckle. The Apple vs. PC debate is almost as vitriolic as the Canon vs. Nikon debate - and probably just as pointless.
Glad everyone resisted the "Safari, so-good-ee" wordplay... |

Don't know about the first nine, but I have to whole heartedly disagree with #10. All you have to do is open both and go to the same page, and you'll see that #10 is wrong. Okay, maybe #5 I'll agree with.
It did crash once when I printed, though.

The UI does feel a little odd on Windows, but after playing with Safari on Windows for a couple of days, I will say that it is noticeably faster than IE or firefox. I don't think it will be my primary browser yet, but I do find myself using it for browsing photo sites for the color management and some work sites where the speed actually makes a difference.
