Anyone going to be in the Philadelphia Area and going to the bike race?

My brother has a house in Manayunk so I'll be up in there. Anyone have any suggestions or tips for shooting cycling races?

Take photographs of the racers going up the Wall - your brother will know where that is. Also don't forget to look around and get audience photographs.

Have fun!

I'm pretty sure sporting events have "spectators", not "audiences", jejeje™ Forgive my being pedantic here, but I got a chuckle out of that. I imagined the Pope on a bicycle climbing the wall...

Does your cam have a second-choice for your focus button? For cycling, your best bet is to focus on a spot and then just rapid-fire clik as the pack or riders move through it. If you're re-focusing with each click, it slows down the number of shots you can take. Also, if they are moving toward you, by the time you focus ona cyclist, he is already OUT of focus when your cam snaps. So, I back-button focus on my 20D. Manual focusing works as well, but with the 2nd button, you can refocus using Auto as they're racing by.

Graham Watson is cycling's premier photographer. Take a look at his work for composition ideas.

Good luck!
