okay so Jeff rainmotorsports and I have come up with a plan to take some pictures at 4 different ISO's. I want to see how good your camera is.
Here is what you have to, With a tripod, Set your camera up about 6 feet away from an object that does not give off or reflect light well. Only using 1 regular light (lamp 100w house lamp) no flashes, or other light is allowed. Just one light... Set your camera at ISO 400 with a shutter time of 1/5th of a second (.2 of a sec). Take the picture then adjust your shutter time 1/2 for every ISO dropped. for example ISO400-1/5th, ISO300-1/2.5th, ISO100-1.3 F/Stop is 2.1, take 4 pictures and post them up. Lets see who's camera is BAD ASS.
Jeff you seeing the specs right??? if not I will edit them.

YOU WENT THE WRONG DIRECTION!!
Lower iso SLOWER SHUTTER SPEED!
ISO 100 will probly need a second or so of exposure at that light atleast.
Most people will have program auto mode to go on.

I think you might have a slight flaw in your tests. As far as my understanding goes, if you double the ISO, then double your shutter speed and it will be a one stop change in light. So then you have
ISO 100 - 1/5
ISO 200 - 1/10
ISO 400 - 1/20
ISO 800 - 1/40
ISO 1600 - 1/80
etc.
I'm not sure how high of an ISO your camera can go, but try that general routine.

without 100% crops the pics won't really tell us anything |

Also, some of us don't have a lens that opens to f/2.1. I would think a smaller aperature would be a safer bet. f/8 perhaps? |

Agreed, and did you zoom or move the camera for the ISO400 image? Probably should retake that one to keep everything the same.
Edit to add: You have a lot of movies by the way...

F/4 more realistic. F/2.8 common but not common enough. |

In the pictures posted above, the ISO100 and ISO300 images have the exact same framing. The ISO400 image, however, seems to be a closer view of the same thing (there is no wall on the left side).

okay we can go to F/8... But that is my camera's max... So lets shoot for F/8 ISO400 and a shutter time of 2 seconds, The ISO200 4" and ISO100 8".
Is that good???

Yup, but make sure to frame the shots identically. And post 100% crops of the image(s).

Don't resize the image. Instead, crop out an 800 x 600 chunk.

When you get that Sony up to 3200 ISO compare it to this one and let me know how it holds up OK.

No prob. That's big enough. I was just suggesting the maximum DPC size, but it doesn't matter.
