What do you think?

Uhmmm, the thumbnails look nice and I can´t imagine she will be nothing but happy but if you honestly want critique I bet most people are lazy like me and are not going to want to go through 33 photos that are so similar, can´t you narrow it down to the 3-5 best ones? :P

Hi Eric,

A beautiful model. Is she a model or is this a real pre-wedding portrait shoot?

The model looks fairly naturally posed in most shots, with a range of different poses, and she looks relaxed and happy, which is good.

If it were me, I would try to go for some more variation creative lighting. As they are, these photos are very consistently lit with soft light from all sides. Soft light is good, but you've pretty much eliminated all shadows, so they lack some depth in the lighting. It's also the same in every shot. Nothing 'wrong' with the lighting as such, but a little variation would make it more interesting and more of a technical challenge for you! :) Although, maybe not a great idea if this is a real pre-wedding shoot, because a non-paid model might not want to sit around while you muck about with lights. :) Maybe a different darker background would keep me happy without changing the lighting.

The editing I really don't like. It's really way too soft, removing all detail. If you want a shallow DOF look, a 50mm 1.8 lens will do wonders for this without breaking the bank. But these photos look like they've been gaussian blurred and the eyes and mouth sharpened and stuck on top. Some specific examples...

Creating artificial shallow DOF is very difficult to do well, so if you didn't have great DOF in the original, either use a wide-subtle focal blur, or just leave the shot, and learn from it.

Also remember that if she is a real bride, then she will want to see details of the dress, the hair, the flowers, the ring - much more than just her eyes and mouth.

Then again, I've looked at your folio, and there's some great images in there. Maybe something else happened with these shots. Maybe accidentally shot in ISO 6billion, and you had to NR them to death? :)

Another editing tip is to try adding some vignetting. It helps to centre the eye into the image, and focus on the subject without resorting to blur.

I'm no wedding photographer by a LONG shot but I think you may want to bring some detail out in the dress, vail...etc...

Pretty girl....is she really getting married?

I left lots of comments. Hopefully to be taken as "constructive criticism" (as in, what can you do next time to get even better).

The best pictures are the ones that really limit (or subdue) that background. It's just playing havoc with the senses. People want to look at her and see what a beautiful bride she was, or look at her dress and admire the details in her dress (or veil, beautiful veil, by the way!).

Also, there appears to be a lot of "blurring" going on. Probably intentional. Possibly to soften the background? She doesn't appear to need the blurring (she looks like she has really pretty skin). But the effect is that you're losing the ability to see the details in her dress.

Keep this one thing in mind: Some brides will spend days, even weeks, seeking out the perfect dress. Some brides will pay lots of money just for that perfect dress. They have been "dreaming of this day" since they were a little girl and all they want is to look perfect on this day. So whatever you can do to help her and her dress look "perfect" will be appreciated by her.

Looks greak Eric. I'd have more full lenth shots as well as bunch of outdoor once. Possible once with props and stuff.

i'd agree they are - for the most part - pretty soft. and at only 640px i imagine they are quite soft full size. a fade from sharp ( eyes ) to smooth ( BG ) would make most of these much better images. not to say you F'd up - but i think they could be better.

i'd like to shoot a wedding that is so well pre-prepared. the ones i've done have all been hack jobs...

edit: i would have a hard time matching these. so don't take it the wrong way.

i'm curious of the lighting and lens/camera settings... as well as the post editing. for some reason they feel kinda fake.

These are some nice photo but I will agree that the background is distracting. The background reminds me of senior pictures or something of the sort. I will also agree that some photos you might want to get the details of the dress and vail. I think the lighting is nice. Hope this helps and take it with a grain of salt as I am no pro.

yeah i agree with everyone, id rather have a neutral background w/out all those colors cuz they take the view away from the bride. and re: the dress. id rather u have the light skimming across the dress to bring out the details and id like some depth to her face. flat lighting isnt that flattering and the shadows would really give your pictures that 3-d effect they are missing.
