Seems that this HUGE hog is the talk of the internet. Killed by an 11 year old with a 50 caliber pistol. He shot it 8 times and then chased it down and shot it point blank to kill it.

Don't get me wrong. I own guns, I am pro-gun, I am pro-hunting, however, wouldn't this animal have been a bigger prize alive?

At least they're going to eat it....800lbs of bacon !

How does an 11 year old get to use a pistol without being arrested?

I hope they like tough gamy meat, because they're gonna have to eat a LOT of it. A wild hog that big is damn near inedible.

He was hunting with his father and from the sounds of it they did everything right. They followed the blood trail for three hours to make sure the animal was properly dispatched and they not waste the meat. As well the boy used a custom hunting pistol which made it even more respectable because he had to be closer to the animal to shoot it.

Why even suggest he should be arrested?

IMO I think they "threw in" the line about eating the meat to avoid the obvious "they just killed it to kill it" comments....somehow when you eat it, it doesn't seem as bad when you kill it.

The U.S.A., I forgot. No guns over here for under 18s, and then you have to be member of a hunting or sportshooters club.

seriously, I wouldn't want to eat it. I raised hogs for over 27 years with my parents and our farm and something that big and old, it isn't going to taste good at all.

Wow! That kid killed his first deer at age 5!

Say what you will, but if I were lost in the woods and hungry, I'd want someone like that kid hanging around with me.

They are just looking for sausage, I think. At least that is what the article implies. :)

I reckon they'll share with neighbors, lots!

Quote of the day:

"It's a good accomplishment. I probably won't ever kill anything else that big."

He must be one heck of a big kid if he was able to shoot a 50 calibur handgun and not get kocked on his butt the first time, let alone 8 times plus the final time. Or maybe that's why it took him 8 shots to slow it down so he could actually kill it with the 9th... he had a hard time aiming sitting on his butt.

I went hunting for dear once with a friend who had been hunting a lot. His idea of hunting on the last day of the season was go to the game reserve or whatever and drive around in the van until we saw one cross the road. lol. I'll never do that again. He wound up shooting it for me. Since we had to jump out of the car all in a hurry. My first time hunting and I didn't even shoot the dear. BTW I don't like guns. I like people and people with guns, but I don't like guns. Some people with guns I don't like. But people who hunt with Canons are the coolest!

Why did he shoot it????
.
.
. Heck, it was too big to run over and road kill just isn't the same ;).

50 Cal picture, hummmm, sure looks like a revolver he's holding, unless it's black poweder there are not too many 50 cal revolvers available. Lots of .44 magnum but .50 cal is in most cases black powder or Thompson Center Arms single shot break action. And yup, the meat will not be able to be eaten, it will be far too wild and tough.

seems sad that a creature so rare and so old would be hunted by any one, let alone some kid whos balls haven't even dropped. I don't understand hunting and I never well.

What can you say, he was 11. I didn't know any better at 11 either.

Feral hogs are not a native species, in fact they are considered invasive and destrucive pests throughout much of the southeastern US.

Would you rather have hogs like this killed or lose endangered native plants and animals?

As for not understanding hunting, it's pretty simple. First, you stalk the animal, then you make the kill, preferably with one shot. Then, it's dinnertime.

Is that real? It looks way to big. I dont understand this hunting and killing thing at all. I supose its a cultrual thing. Anyway something that old and that size should have been left to live its life in peace.

Sad
