you have to take the road less traveled to get really good landscapes.

There's something to be said for using long lenses for landscapes, it's easier to point the camera somewhere without distracting stuff.

Is that along I-81? I think I've eaten there! :-D

On your return trip, I highly recommend cutting west from I-81 over to I-79 in West Virginia. If you need to stay on interstates to make time, then take I-70/I-68 through Maryland -- the I-70 section is nothing special, but I-68 offers some amazing vistas. BUT, if you can take an extra hour or two, head down I-81 a little ways to Winchester, VA and take U.S. Route 50 over to I-79 at Clarksburg, WV ... the 2-hour drive between Capon Bridge (near Winchester) and Bridgeport (near Clarksburg) is about as scenic as it gets, and the driving experience is an absolute blast through the mountains. It's a 2-lane road most of the way, but very little traffic and plenty of passing zones. I just drove it for the 5th time yesterday coming back from a trip to Ohio, and it was as amazing as always. That 2-hour part of the drive passes so quickly, and I must have said words like "awesome", "beautiful", and "amazing" over and over as I took in the scenery (and carved the turns). :-)

ETA: here are some "points of interest" on it: //www.route50.com/westvirginia.htm & //en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northwestern_Turnpike
Contrary to what the first page implies, the roads are good and the speed limit over most of the stretch is 55mph, with some slower speeds through towns and of course around the sharp curves.
