I am now shooting with a EF 300mm f/2.8 lens mounted on my Mark IIn. I am looking at a Bogan/Manfrotto 681 or 681b with a 3232 swivel.

Any suggestions are welcome. I usually handhold but it is one heavy lens.

Thanks

sounds like a decent setup to me... I have a crappy monopod with a very nice bogan manfrotto head, however the crappy monopod is very stable for a 30 dollar knockoff of one of the good brands. lol works for me anyway.

the trekpod II with magmount and fold out legs for a pseudo tripod is awesome. I just got one and am in love with it.

THIS MONOPOD has served me very well. I have absolutely no complaints.

Thanks to Johns suggestion and that of others I also have this monopod it easily supports my 1DMKII and the hefty 120-300 sigma with no complaints. Its also a dream to work with very easy one handed.

I use this same set up and find it very good in most situations. However, the 3232 swivel head does give me problems when shooting with my D200 and Nikon 70-200 VR (about 5 lbs of weight). The swivel head tends to collapse on my fingers (which hurts like hell by the way) if I do not keep it extremely tightened down which makes it hard to use. Also the quick release plate is the one screw type so the weight of the camera and lens tends to make it rotate loose at times.

The system you are going to use is even heavier so my guess is you will want a little heavier head and quick release system. I have not researched it yet but I will likely look for a new head that offers a bit stronger swivel lock (the monopod itself is plenty stong) and a quick release plate that uses two screws that the foot on my lens has.

It would be interesting if anyone who has the RCO quick release plate mentioned here can comment on the loosening issue.
