Hi All,

I am very new to DP and would appreciate any help and advice here.

Please can you help, I have purchased adobe elements 4.0 and noticed that when I open a raw image, it forces me to convert the image to 8 bit colour depth!

Please can anyone tell me: what are the implaications of this?, will i get less quality image processing in 8bit?
,and if so, is there a way to use 16 bit in elements.

Cheers All,

Tony

For 16bit you'll have to go to the full Photoshop CS2 I'm afraid.

I assume you got PS Elements 4.0 used (and cheap), PS Elements is currently at version 5 as far as I know.

when you open the ACR look at the bottom left. Elements has limited support for 16 bits.

If you make all of your major tonal changes during the conversion, you're not likely to see significant artifacts from subsequent editing in 8-bit mode. If, however, you do a lot of selective adjustment of color and tonality after the conversion, that's another thing entirely. If you find that you really need 16-bit support, then Photoshop CS at minimum is required, better CS2.
