Okay, so we're forming TeamEuro (all people living in Europe). So far we have:

grbrya (Austria)
joekent (UK)
Marigold (UK)
menele (UK)
Monicagd (Romania)
rheverly (UK)
yianisn (Greece)

Our philosophy: To play as a team, to get to know and support each other, and to have fun. We are not "gunning" for the title, but we are participating and all doing our best.

Our requirements are few: that you have entered at least a few challenges; and, that you do your best to enter at least one qualifying challenge each week that we are in the competition.

If you are a member, welcome and thanks for joining! Post here, tell us about yourself, and let's start getting to know each other.

News
We need to teams total signing up to get to 72 for us to be able to participate. Right now there are 68 created teams, but only about 56 are finalized. Hopefully four more teams will be created, and all of them finalized or else we won't be able to play (we weren't in the first 48 teams finalized). Keep your fingers crossed.

New Members
I have invitations out to two other people one other person living in Europe, but if I don't get an acceptance soon, we'll find another. If current members have suggestions, let me know. Anyone who wants to join, please post here!

So, this is going to be fun!

Best,

Rob

Hello all,

I'm looking forward to playing with you in DPL as it will be a motive to take more pictures more often. Lets hope we will make it.

oh, we also need a logo for our team (-:

Rob, Thanks for setting this thread up and the team. My fingers are crossed. I am 35 male, born in USA, but living in Austria (relocated for work). I am married and have a beautiful son who will be 4 in August. I enjoy the outdoors (mountain biking, skiing, hiking) and photography, of course.

Do you have any ideas for a team logo? I haven't played around too much with Photoshop in that respect, only with photos, so I'm not sure I could be of much help there. But I can always try something.

I actually have a specialty logo application, and am working on something now. I'll post in a few minutes before I get back to work.

By the way, I'm also American, living in the UK (Norwich, about 2 hours NE of London by train), and relocated for work. Married with an almost two year old.

This is going to be fun!

Best,

Rob

Hello all,

Thanks Rob for the invite and setting up the team. Fingers crossed we get in.

Your philosophy is spot on and participation is what it's all about - I'll second that!

I live in Jersey, which is a small island off the coast of France, am 33 years old, have 2 fantastic children and obviously enjoy photography. Am a bit of an F1 fan too and am taking my camera to the French GP at the end of next month. Hope there's an appropriate challenge!

Hello everybody!

I think I am the youngest member... and the only female (until now)!

I am glad to be part of TeamEuro! Also I hope I'll learn from you but also we'll have fun!

Regards,
Monica

Hey guys, thanks for the invite. Lets hope we get in :)

Fairly new here but loving the challenge, DPL should be a fun addition and lets hope it pushes us on to do better and better in our photography.

I'm a UK native, living in Cambridge and working as an analytical chemist. Only really been back into photography for a little while but completely hooked :)

Okay, so here are three quick (as in "super quick") logo ideas. I honestly don't like any of them :) The logo program was altering them on export, so the lettering wasn't matching up. I'll try again later, but for now need to upload to the thirty day B&W side challenge, and need also to get back to work :)

I added a tag line: "It's the quiet ones you have to watch out for." That's because part of what I don't like about WPL/DPL is all the "trash talk" and cheeky competitiveness. It's just not me. It's not that I'm not competitive, I'd just rather rely on my photographs than on a bunch of talk. That's my philosophy, though, so if you enjoy that, then go ahead and make some noise (but don't feel bad if you'd rather not)!

Anyway, take a look at the logos, make suggestions (both as to "fixing" these and as to something completely new), trash them, whatever. I'm open to changing the Team name, too, if you all want and can be a bit more creative, and anyone else is free to noodle around with logo ideas, as well.

By the way, I am on the faculty at the University of East Anglia, where I teach in the law school. Don't hold it again me :) My professional web page is here: //robert.heverly.org

And this is going to be fun -- whether you like it or not :P

Best,

Rob

I like the tag line - not so much the logo itself... May I try to draw something?

I agree with Monica...I like the tag line, but not the logo so much. I think it's a combination of the eye staring at me and the white background that I don't like. Coincidence or not, Euro + eye = Eurovision, which just happens to concluding this weekend.

As far as the team name is concerned, it's just fine...I'm less concerned about our name and logo and more interested in having fun and learning some new things. Although, with that said...Euro Squadron as a Team name sounds cool too. Could be a logo with a stealth bomber photo and the same tag line...just an idea.

Agree with Gary. Less concerned with the name and logo and more interested in taking part and being part of a team! Unfortunately designing logo's or thinking up names is not my forte. I'm terrible at thinking up titles for my photos! Just have a look! :-)

Yes yes, Monica, please have a go. I was thinking of maybe a castle (because there are real castles in Europe, not just ones in Disney theme parks), but I wasn't sure how to approach that.

Anyone and everyone who wants can have a go, and yes (again), the logo's not too important to me, either (as you can probably tell from the fact that I didn't even think about it at all until today). I'm glad you liked the tag line (that's about the only bit I did like), but even with that, it's about fun, learning, and getting to know each other (being part of the team).

Might I ask you all to take a look through the Free Agent list and let me know by PM if there's anyone who sparks your interest (please don't post it here; public discussions of individual members seems a bit indiscreet to me)? I would love to have another woman on the team, but the only other woman in Europe that I could find on the list has already rejected our application (without explanation). I am also up for approaching someone not on the list, if you have someone in mind. Let me know what you think!

Best,

Rob

Here's an example of the stealth idea:

If you need castles, I was in the Rhine River valley last week and have lots of shots like this one:

I like the stealth idea (fits nicely with the tag line), and the name change doesn't bother me, either. What does everyone else think? Let's see what Monica comes up with and make a choice!

Rob

Let me have a few hours - I am still at work ;)
05/10/2007 08:59:08 AM · #16
Monica...take your time, we still have a few days (I think)
05/10/2007 09:14:54 AM · #17
Yes, though honestly right now things don't look good for making the "cut" and getting into this first season. We finalized as team 54, and 48 is the highest they'll take unless we make it to 72. Right now there are only 68 teams started, and only 56 finalized.

I would suggest, though, that even if we don't get in, we can do something team-like in the mean time. That is, stay together as a team, I can compute what our DPL average would be, and we'll see how we do. I would still like to enter at least one qualifying challenge each week. I would also like to share and comment on images before a challenge, which would require a non-voting pledge from anyone who participates in that aspect of team membership. That is, we would post our shots, comment and get advice, but then not vote on team shots during the challenge. This is legal, by the way :)

Anyway, take your time with the logo, Monica. We just need something by Sunday night, I think.

Best,

Rob

Rob, don't forget that 68 teams have been created, so as long as they get 4 more teams and all of the pending teams are finalised we'll be in. I think we'll get to participate. Let's just hope that there are people in the free agent pool that decide to combine together and form teams. With 70ish people in the pool, I'd hope that they could get 4 more teams.

I agree with rheverly, it would be interesting to see how you would do in DPL (assuming we don't enter). It would be great practice for the next season.

We're a complete team; Marigold has joined us. Welcome, Marigold!!

She lives in the UK, and, well, she's a she :) So now Monica isn't the lone woman on the team anymore!

I'm glad we're complete; now we just have to hope the SC works out to get us to 72 teams!

Best,

Rob

It is not what I had in mind but please tell me what do you think! I'll try to make something else...

Hey Monica,

I think it's great!

Lets hope we get in...

Looks good to me Monica :D
05/10/2007 05:24:05 PM · #25
Hi Monica,

Looks pretty good to me; can we get it to read "Team Euro" (or maybe "Euro Squadron" as the team name instead, as then the "Euro" part can be first)?

The quotation is actually a real quotation (couldn't find who it was from in a quick search), and it needs an "out" after the "watch" ("watch out for"). Probably no one but me would pick that up, but that's what you get for being on a team with a university lecturer :)

Any other opinions, people?

Rob
