I'm making a poster for Perter Pan tonight but can't decide - selective desat or just B&W. Which do you prefer?

I suspect this subtle desat will please most of the viewers of the poster. It partly depends on how you are working what colors into the rest of the poster. Nice shot.

I agree with Robert, go with the limited color version

The green, definitely. It's somehow more "magical", especially for what you're intending to do.

Personally like the desat since it is gentle. Nice shot too.

I think I like B&W a little bit better, but I would use the selected desat image if the poster is going to be displayed out of context (i.e. where the picture has to *show* that it's Tinkerbell).

If I could make a suggestion: The black in the colour image needs to be blacker. Compare the two, and you'll see the background in the colour shot is still only a very dark gray.

Edit to add a ) and to fix spelling.

Another vote for the desat version.

Generally speaking I am not a fan of selective desat, but given the subject for this composition and it's use desat is a good choice.

Desat, but do something about the straps on the ballet shoes which have a lot of glare

I'd like to see full color. Maybe only sat on the wings.

Ditto.

I think the B&W is much better. But it fails to convey the message. The selective desat, however, succeeds at carrying the message across.

I like the green, but the straps on her shoes look blown out.

B&W is the more compelling image artistically IMO, but the desat will work better in this situation, I think. Nicely done, BTW!

Thanks everyone for the replies, I agree, I'm not a huge fan of selective desat in general but it just seemed to fit this image.

This was a shot I took last night at dress rehearsal and I'm just slapping together something last minute to have at the show tonight so unfortunately there's not much I can do about the shoes being a bit blown at this point.

This is what I'm thinking of for the final, any last opinions before I'm off to the print shop?

I agree with the majority that the desat works for your purpose. I would consider cloning or healing out that line on the stage, I find it very distracting.

edit: whoops, too slow, you already did it :)

Selective desat. for sure!

Looks good. As far as the shoes go I would say those are specular highlights (especially if the shoes are a bit shiny). Any processing book I've read says to ignore specular hightlights when determining the white and black points.

Very nice shot and it works very well for the poster you've created.

Check out my comment on the Poster image...don't want you printing off a ton of copies with the wrong spelling (unless it's supposed to say "Domion")

And just to check, should it be Repertory rather than Reparatory? Excellent work on the poster.
