You tell them that you REALLY REALLY like that particular item and that is EXACTLY what you want but you don't want to pay that much and keep asking for their best price and start again if they come down a bit. If they don't go somewhere else. Don't be afraid to walk. I worked in a store whose motto was "NOBODY WALKS" ... we would go fetch em back from the parking lot and sell at cost rather than let them spend money at our competitors. AND MAJOR places CAN do it. ESPECIALLY the ones that advertise NO interest ... do the above and ALSO tell em CASH!. There IS no such thing as no interest ... it is in the price ... the salesman or the company has to pay the interest ... get that interest as a discount when you buy cash ...

I see you've met my dad. haha. I've seen him get discounts at walmart by talking to managers.

You can play this game and will win something at going it most of the time. But don't forget to play it fair, remember that those salesman have to live too.

THe key to being a good haggler is being willing to walk away.

A good way to start is ask if there is any flexibility on the price. THey will come with their first offer (if they don't, leave). Then you counter offer. If they say that as low as they can go, say "I'll see if any of the other shops can do better..."

They will be more likely to haggle with accessories because they paid cost on those and the value is resale to you (i.e. they give you a $50 filter that they paid $30 for rather then give you $50 off the lens). So it may be good to ask to throw in a memory card, camera bag, filter... rather then ask for a lower price if there is something you need.

Just don't be too greedy and you should get results.
