Got myself the Sigma EF500 DG ST for the function I shot on Friday night and tested it on the 50mm F1.8 and I was happy.
On the night, I had to use the wider side of the Canon 18-55mm kit lens for to fit in all the people on some of the bigger groups. I also used the Sigma 70-300mm for some close-up portraits of the guest speakers.
In all instances I bounced the flash from the ceiling or nearby wall, and with all of them I used the center AF point to focus on the necktie of the subject in the center for groups, or the nearest eye for the portraits.
When I downloaded the shots I saw that focus with the 50mm and 70-300 was perfect, but on the 18-55, especially in the wider shots the focal point was about 2m behind the subject, resulting in beautifully sharp backgrounds and fuzzy subjects.
I don't have this issue with the 18-55 without the flash.
Any ideas on what would cause this, or is the lens screwy?
Thanks!

Try this test, to see if you really have an issue or not.
