There are 3 possible translations for still.
1) As calm, tranquility
2) As adverb
3) As this object Alambicco

I think that the 1 is the request. Is this the truth?

yes but the "Spinning" is also a sport.

This should be an interesting one. "Still." Isn't a picture in itself "still?" ;-)

What about still life....so if you shoot still life..is that okay?

I think this is just setting up a whole mess of DNMC's and arguments on what's still and what's not still....someone will prolly say it needs to fit a song lyric...someone will say that if it's not moving, then it's not still....I might save myself the agony and opt out of that one.

if you take the adverb meaning of still, traslating in italian and change the accent you obtain this object :P Ancora

Just be careful you're not the one who gets shot.

The only thing I can think of, simplify. If its not moving, take your best shot. If its a moving object, let it go. If it is still, but in theory could be moving, I think you have a 50/50.

IMO..people, sunsets, oceans, wildlife, and sky would all be moving. Lots of things just sit there unmoved.

Wait wait wait...but what if your kid is pretending to be a mannequin and is standing completely still....hey it's still (i even said it in my description). The sky is moving??? Is it falling? OH NO THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!! haha. Technically nothing is really still. Since the earth is constantly rotating...everything on earth is moving.....but then again (and here comes the engineer in me) if you use the equation Vb = Va + Va/b. Then anything not moving faster than the earth's rotation is unmoving compared to the earth....oh damn..I just confused myself.

If only this challenge would have been a week ago! argh... It was so still around here last week but alas the snow has all melted now, leaving gray skies and a muddy earth...

Hahaha If you moved, in the opposite direction, at the rate of speed that the earth is rotating...THAT would be still. Um, good luck with that!

This image by Skip seems very still, excluding the spinning earth of course. ;)

I would think that 'still' is how you percieve it. A photo of a humming bird taken at fast speed is what it would look like if it were still or could be stilled. It could also be the consequence of something that is still when it normally wouldn't be. I have seen photos in challenges where I have had a hard time connecting it with the theme. This doesn't mean the photographer didn't make a connection. Although I think that the connection should become apparant after analysing the photo.

Yup, which means we'll probably get a lot of zen-like/landscapes. Time to start thinking about something for the spinning challenge. :(

Spinning...

Hehe. I think I did that when I was... 16? 17? And had a camera with no zoom, no flash... basically no megapixels. Oh those were the days.

Too bad you can't enter gifs otherwise I'm sure charliebaker would enter something like that in the Still challenge. :P

The n/a in challenge description means....
"interpret this as you will!"
03/25/2007 09:16:32 PM · #22
"Still" isn't just "stillness". It's also a state of not having ended, a prolonging of an event or situation, etc.

"We're still waiting for the pizza to arrive."
03/25/2007 09:21:06 PM · #23
Yep, like an old car that is rusty and falling apart and is 'still' going.

hmm...I wonder if I would get a DNMC if i entered dancing photos in the spinning challenge?? At least on the east coast dancing is referred to as spinning!!!!

I feel that no matter what I do I'm getting at least 1 DNMC comment in either challenge.

Hmmmmm, deciding between an ok photo for spinning or a great one for still (but it's a still life and not sure that will go over well with the voters.....what do you think, would a simple still life photo get voted down?)
