Pam and I are off to Brussels on 29th December for a few days break. Checked it out on the net and it looks a wonderful photo opportunity. Anybody have any recommendations of where to snap away?

Thanks
Mike

Most definitely Brugges! One of the most beautiful towns around Europe for photography. You can close your eyes and point your camera in any direction and you got yourself a masterpiece. Maybe you should ask Kavey, she was there recently.

I am not sure how far away Brugges is from Brussels though, but it can't be far than an hour or two. Belgium isn't that big :-)

Brugges really is wonderful, you need to go there!

It's a little more than 1 hour from Brussels.

Happy shooting :)

Bruges is indeed beautiful; its like walking in a postcard. But there is plenty of interest in Brussels itself. There are lots of interesting churches. Don't miss the Grand Place; in fact visit it several times since things will look different as the daylight changes, and is beautifully lit at night. The Atomium was built for the 1958 World's Fair and is a rather unique building. Mannikin Pis is famous, though not all that exciting. They do dress him in interesting costumes occasionally.

If you do have time to drive to Bruges, consider stopping by Ghent on the way there or back. It is a beautiful city as well.

Hello Mike, I live in Belgium myself. May I suggest Antwerp as an interesting trip ( 30minutes by train from Brussels), porttown by the river "Schelde" and stuffed with musea (Middelheim -sculptures in open air-, Musea of Art , Modern Art and Photography, and in the port itself, musea concerning Rubens,( Rubenshuis), Plantijn (printer 16th Century) and Vleeshuis ( 11th century gothical house of the guild of buchers, containing ancient paintings, immense collection of ancient music instruments...). Brussels Itself contains quite a lot of musea (Art, modern Art,…) visit the places on and around the Grand Place, but dont eat in the touristic restaurants around there (rue des Bouchers), there are better and less expensive places to go all over town! Have a wonderfull trip anyway!

If you go to Mons, wich is an hour drive from Brussels, you are near Charleroi where you will find a great museum for photography, one of the greatest in Europe; actually, an American photographer is shown, Jane Evelyn Atwood.

Town hall looks also very beautiful, I don't know the square's name, but it was wonderful with it, buildings from the 1600's somewhat years. And don't forget about the "molecule" monument. :-)

Kiwi has right: Brugges is not far, but one of the most beautiful towns in the world. When I was there - 6-7 years ago -, it was night, and we didn't see much of it, but even that not much was amazing! :-) It was very cold and windy in the end of March, I don't know what's the weather like in December.
