Setting up my screen on the new laptop and need to know if these look too bright or dark and if the colors look good

I would say a tad bit dark ... some of the details in the shadows appear to be lost ... |

Not an easy question to answer because it depends what you where going for in photos, the mood, contrast, etc.
But on my CRT ...
The 1st : I too would like to see a bit more detail in the shadows.
2nd: It's perfect! The graduation from light to dark in the shadows works great. |

On the first one try playing with the Shadows/Highlights in Image>Adjustments>Shadow/Highlight..., you can bring a bit more detail into the shadows but it can also washout the depth of the black on the hulls.
Hope you dont mind but I have done a mod on the tugs, I selected the shadows altered the curve, the inversed the selection, and did a brightness/contrast on the highlights. what do you think
I agree with Techo on the 2nd one tonal range from highlights to shadows good and I like the reflection in the glass.

I agree fully with benhur and techo ... it seems we have a concensus.

I believe that my monitor is too bright which makes the photo too dark on your screen. I have tweaked it a bit so next time I post I hope it will be right. Thanks for the input, has really helped.
