I saw a very strange advertisement for a website while browsing the web and after thinking a while, recognized this horribly ruined work as Librodo's

here is where it's at.

I don't know if this guy is using the image with Librodo's permission, but I IMAGINE someone would not want this done to their beautiful image. It looks like some of the others being used might be his too, but I can't be too sure. But this one was a no-question.

Anyone know what to do? I PM'd him to let him know.

I think contacting Librodo was the right thing. Now it's up to him to decide how to proceed.

That is sad...Hopefully it will be easy to clear this up.

There are quite a number of DPCers' photos on there.

They seem to just randomly access whatever photo sites on the web they can.. and just go to town on the photos. Probably some kind of "high art" in the minds of the people that do this.

It's been around forever though, and will probably be around for some time to come. Just have to take it one photo at a time, and even then there might not be anything a person can legally do about it.

I don't know enough about this thing and laws regarding such though.

*EDIT* Well.. after further looking into it, it seems that the "owner" of the website deems the images on there to be copyright to the website, and offers licensing of said images.. which means he is, or could potentially be, making money off these images... which use already copyrighted images as their base.

It's going to take someone FAR more knowledgeable than me to delve into this though.. is someone out there willing to do this? heh.

That's a disgusting site. I suggest someone ask for a license on the photos that were stolen and manipulated. They offer the "art" for sale commercially. Then with a sales price it will be easy to shut them down for good. That site deserves a ambulance chasing lawyer to go after them.

Interestingly, when I read this page All Fantasy Art Copyright Information I found a 'Contact Us' link. I clicked on that link and as I was waiting for it I notice the bottom of my page was indicating it was trying to go to www.beautiful-wedding.com. Something strange there.

Thats pretty shameful, seeing as they claim their own copyright over all the images:

Violators will at the very least have their Service Provider/ISP cancel their service as outlined in this legislation: //www.loc.gov/copyright/legislation/dmca.pdf

Stealing things like photos, music, etc is one thing. I may DL tons of music, but I don't remix it, then try to market as my own and claim copyright over it...

The hyprocrisy that drivels on and on through his copyright page is almost uncanny.

Probably the best bet is to contact the company which hosts the site -- they may be liable if they don't take the site down once they are informed (reliably) of the copyright violations.

However, if the country hosting the site is not a signatory to the Berne Convention you (the photgraphers) may just be screwed.

it's just sickening to see this happen. I can't imagine anyone would ever want to rip my images, haha, but I feel like a fellow photographer is being used, so it's kinda personal. Funny how that works....

And I don't really know if anything can be 'done' such as legal action. But Librodo is pretty well known I would say, and it's a shame his images are being used this way.

When I tried the contact us page all I got was the border, ad, etc, with nothing in the body.

Just out of curiosity, IF we dpchallenge had some sort of copyright notice on each of the photos, would we then be protected? Or would that not help, either. Seems sad that they just may be screwed by participating in the site. (And yes, I know the idea to copyright our images has been discussed... I'm not trying to bring up that debate, I'm honestly just curious if that would offer protection of our art.)

There is a copyright notice on each and every page of the site:

"DPChallenge, and website content and design, Copyright © 2001-2007 Challenging Technologies, LLC.
All digital photo copyrights belong to the photographers and may not be used without permission"

He's NOT related to the GT media in NYC or Ireland... those are advertising agencies

Remember that "All digital photo copyrights belong to the photographers and may not be used without permission." is posted near the bottom of every page here at DPC.

Just to play devil's advocate here (and believe me, I'm all about copyright and the image is pretty nasty), but wouldn't this fall under the editorial use of copyrighted material?

Selling it is potentially different, however, the Supreme Court, I believe, backed up pulling samples off of other songs for rap and hip hop. Wouldn't this be the photographic or graphic design equivalent?

Just asking...
