Well after a long service live (atleast 25 years) and its second owner this Yashica FX-3 (believed to be circa 1973?) has had it. The shutter still rocks those with hearing aids but the ISO dial wont turn and the back door seal is gone leaving a big light leak.

These are the last usable shotd taken with it and probly the last film shots of my 1966 Austin Healey Sprite Mark III. In order from best to worst. All have been edited due to over exposure and film age. (The film sat in the camera for 8 months before the car pics were taken, I couldnt change the ISO setting and didn't compensate likewise.)

I Like this shot the best it jumps out at me Excellent DOF.

Past that the 8 month old shots are here 3 of them were savable but these two are the ones I will show.

This one was damaged by the light leak is of two sisters i worked with though tit was sorta cute the second version i cropped desaturated and gave it a vignette to try and save it.

I gave this the same editing to try and save it.

If anyone wants to try and edit one i can send u the original tif film scans. Im now 6 months into my dSLR search settling towards the Pentax K10D. Here's a shot of the camera and two photos taken with my cell phone camera that i used for a challenge entry.

EDIT - Adding new shots after applying some tape to the camera to prevent light leakage.

It's sad to lose a good old SLR like that. I wonder if there's any old craftsmen around that could put the problems right? The door seal sounds like it could be fixed. ISO dial may be another matter, at least without extensive surgery.
My first SLR was a 1958 Exakta Varex IIa that my Dad got for nothing from a pro who had used it on a beach shoot and gotten sand in it. The sand was *everywhere* but my Dad managed to salvage it. He shot with it until the mid '70s, and then gave it to me. I shot with it until 1999. Still works fine.

I think the seal could be done up the ISO dial is inside the shutter speed dial... But with not being able t get the battery compartment open the flash probly wont fire anyways. And finding Pentacon Bayonet mount lenses... i mind as well slap some money on a full manual Nikon FM10 or get a more modern F series with autofocus. But im taking the time to go digtal.

Im not all that great with photography but that first shot of the Austin i love.

Bumping before bed.

Wouldn't mind a comment or two on this one.

Left you a comment.

Sorry to hear about your SLR. It's always a shame when one of the oldies goes.

Thanks for the comment. As for the red car in the background of a couple of these shots it was also mine and I should have moved it. I wasn't expecting these to turn out well with the film having been in the camera 8 months.

As you said in the comment the hood is over exposed there has already been some compensation on it but compensating for 2 stops of overexposure was kind of hard without turning the car grey.

Rather than a comment, I hope you don't mind a slight tweak...

What I did on this was just to crop slightly, add a gentle vignette and clean up the parking lot...
...damn, now I've got a full bag of leaves under my desk to get rid of ;-)

I was actually messing with the burn tool. I was gonna create a thread about Post Processing this one. Im not looking to have someone do work for me but if anyone sbored enough go ahead.

//www.rainmotorsports.com/0005501-R1-044-20A.tif

Thats the original from the negative scan. Right click and save otherwise itll probly try to load up in Quicktime....

If you wanna knock it out go ahead i wouldnt mind having the original back in a lossless format such as Tif or PNG.

BUT on a serious note id like to learn more myself so if you wanna mess with it send back a small jpeg and point out some things i can do so i can learn that would be cool to.

This is probly one of my best 35mm shots.

Thanks kirbic i like the edit i feel it knocks the DOF down a step but outside of that yeah I like it the buick could definantly get cropped out and help center the car more anyways.

while I can't help with fixing your 35mm SLR, I might be able to help with making sure those are the last film shots of your car. Simply send me the car and I'll photograph it all you want and send back the negatives for you to develop anyway you like. The car of course would have to stay with me...sorry. ;) j/k

Very sweet car, sorry to hear about the camera.

Its for sale asking 2500 for the car and 500 for the parts. Parts include Spare Engine with Trans... NEW TOP. Spare Clutch, spare carbs, spare taillights, spare radiator, 2 starters, 1 generator (another core also), a bunch of tachs and speedo's. Rebuilt Steering rack blah blah blah id actually have to finish un packing the stuff.... seriously i filled up the back of my pickup with spares.

Shes a runner and i used to drive it to work on the weekends and sadly to tell you i even drove it through 2 feet of unplowed snow.... sorry.

Some rust but nothing through mainly needs to be taken down to bare metal and painted. Recently installed new radiator and hoses, rebuilt generator, new igintion switch and plugs. She needs the tailight socket and leeds replaced and im getting ready todo the clutch lines.

I dont want to get rid of her but you know i need a dSLR... on more serious note i actually need to buy my mom a car.

As far as parts go theres only 7 parts you cant get that includes Engine block, trans case, amber turn signals (clear ones are still avaliable), original points distributors, guages, the radio, and the steering wheel horn push but u can get a vintage replacement from a Lucas NOS dealer. Here in america Moss Motors carries ready to go new replacment and performance parts everything up to brand new superchargers. In ohio the winners circle carries alot of performance parts for her.

Well i decided to give it another Go. I picked up a roll of Kodak Professional bw400cn. Loaded it up and electrical taped the back door with a little bit over into the seems.

Not knowing if the leak is a shutter leak or the more likely back door since the seal is gone I also kept it inside a black tshirt between shots.

I messed around with the 50mm 1.8 trying to get the appropriate shallow depth of field on a few shots. Well see how it turned out tomorrow.

Cool, post up the results when you get them back.

If you want an intact one to play with, the Canon FD mount cameras and lenses are good and pretty cheap nowadays, mostly since you can't easily use them on DSLRs.

They have a pretty good selection. You could get the 50mm 1.2L if you really want shallow DOF, heh.

The Pentax K10 is an incredible DSLR. Pentax is not the most popular DSLR, but in my opinion they are some of the best made prosumer models, and the cost is modest. I am a little biased I have had a IST *D, and now a K100. I would have the K10D, but I only needed 6mp, and when I was in the market the K10 had just come out.

The thing I like the best is the lens selection. There are so many really good old lens available for the pentax mount, and almost all of the digital functions work on the older lenses.

Well heres the shots, their prints scanned with a horrible scanner but they turned out okay and a little restorative editing helps!

Remember its a full manual camera, no light meter so i had to guess shutter speeds. The camera has a light leak but i taped it up to see if it could be used.

LOL - Gaffers tape fixes anything; Just a bit of a pain to change film right..... It's just a scratch (in the python sense) :-)

Good to see some old camera still working - I have my fathers Yashica circa 1965 and it's fun - horrible pics and very average lens but just something about a fully manual camera that you have to wind forward and back that my auto film & digi bodies just don't have. I have no idea what it is....

I also recently saved my old brownie box that I must have used when I was 10 or so.... gota get around to getting some film for that thing as it seems to be light tight.
