Someone can explain me what "featured photos" mean?

Special attention given to a particular picture. Picture of the Day is another way of saying "featured photo".

Could be a random picture. Or could be a picture that the editors of a magazine picked out.

Congratulations. Is it the same photo in your portfolio?

Yes, different frame (I have learned to do frames since then) and a better name.
I think this is my link there.

I would have posted more but I have to wait until I gain more points. Every 15 points I can submit a new picture. It is a nice sistem. You get the points if somebody is writing a critique on your photos or if you write it to others. Very stimulating to comment on other people's work.

You should put a link to your photo on your signature. That way some of the ppl from DPC can also comment on your photos.

Thank you very much for the suggestion. I think I will do it even I don't have much there.

I have to try if i did it correctly. As I know me, probably not.

That link takes you to your profile; you should be able to take it to the next link, your photos.

//www.photosig.com/go/users/userphotos?id=140903

But FYI be advised of several things:

1) Some sites have policies which forbid "deep linking", i.e., linking to anywhere but the top page. I don't know what PhotoSIG's policy is. I suspect it's ok there.

2) Many sites have policy against, or consider it abuse in general, using bandwidth "invisibly", e.g., if you were to use the HTML show image tag but point to a picture on that site, so the site isn't even visible, but you are using their bandwidth. That's not what you're trying to do, and I don't even know if that works from PSIG, but something everyone here should keep in mind for other sites as well.

3) In order for someone to see your photo at its real resolution rather than a thumbnail, they must be a PSIG member and be signed in. So your link will be good only for those who have access (though it's free)

4) Something I always consider the few times I mention other sites from here, and mentioned this site elsewhere: you are "advertising" for DPC's competitors. I don't know if they care, nor if we should care if they care. ;)

As to your picture as a "Featured Photo", on PSIG that's based on your score for the picture. It's based on the current "top rating photos", and at this moment, for example, you need a 3.9 or better. Basically, you did very well with it, because it's hard to get a decent score on a picture there nowadays, and has always been hard to get a featured photo anyway. And I say "score" rather than rating, because your score not only depends on how critiquers rate you, but HOW MANY critiquers rate you. And getting a lot of people to go to the trouble of submitting a critique is hard, unless you do nudes (which are very popular on the site ;-)

POSTNOTE: I went back again to look at your score, and yes, you did very well! And if you want to see some incredible insect macro's, check out the photos of one of your critiquers, Mark Plonsky. He uses a reverse 49 mm lens attached to the front of a Canon G1 (more recently a G3), and has done really beautiful work.

Hope that helps. Regards--Neil

Congrats on the featured photo. Anyone else have a Sig link to keep an eye out for?
