Hi there,

I just entered a photograph of the outside of a brothel in the 30 Day Where I Live Challenge (not that I LIVE in a brothel...)

Only to find that what is legal here in Australia is illegal in the US.

It would never have occurred to me that Brothels (whore-houses, massage parlours or places of legal prostitution) would be illegal in the US.

Now that I know this, I was wondering if the mere photograph of a brothel is offensive?

In Australia Brotels are very much legal and allowed to offer sexual services for money. It's just a 'norm' in our society that they exist.

Most people don't want to live near one, so mostly they are in industrial areas out in the suburbs, but even where I live about 20 kilometers out of Melbourne, the photograph I took is of one on a main road.

We have well known brothels and gentlemans clubs and they are legal here and I would think a photograph of the outside of such a building would not be offensive to my fellow countrymen/women, but as this is a site with people from all over the world I would like to get a sense of what they feeling would be from people from other countries.

Looking forward to hearing your views.

Prostitution is not universally illegal in the US either -- only in the vast majority of it. As for a picture of a brothel offending someone, I wouldn't know why. They may not agree with them, but their existence should not be taken as a personal offense. I'm sure someone could make it one though. :(

more than a couple in Nevada, if memory serves correctly. The rest of the states just ignore the sex-slave black market instead.

Someone I was in the Air Force with got arrested by the S.P.s for charging $5,000 worth of hookers on his govt AMEX while we were in Vegas. So there are definantly a few there.

Thanks guys, just wanted to get a general 'vibe' about it.

Would not have thought a building would be offensive - but thought I'd get a second opinion!

Now about that address....GRIN!

Instead of brothels, we have strip clubs and massage parlors on every city corner serving the same purpose.

I am FOR brothels. I am AGAINST aurora borealis. So, more brothel photos and fewer borealis photos, please. Thank you.

Plenty of IT work to be done in Nevada, dude. And you could always find a down-on-her-luck dancer to take in instead of paying for it.

I wonder was that $5,000 for a lot of cheap hookers, or for a few expensive hookers?

Down-on-her-luck dancers have more mental stability than the gems I've had the pleasure of finding throughout the years; I don't know if I could have a meaningful relationship with a woman who isn't mentally unbalanced and/or willing to commit grievous acts of violence, it's just not the same. :(

I don't think "lot" is the correct word for a group of hookers. Let's see... murder of crows, flock of seagulls... gaggle of geese... a giggle of hookers? a wiggle of hookers?

I have been wondering that for the last 13 years. we never saw him again after they took him away (and we didn't know what he had done the night before at the time) when we got back from vegas he was dishonorably discharged. I do know that he was a vigin before that.

I am a prostitute, but by title only.

Being a free agent, not having a true 9-5 normal job, I whore myself out to the network of people that I have contacts with to get work, and make money.

I may not pull out my swinging johnson to make money, but I certainly come close to it at times. Especially when working for Disney.
