Notice the definition of the Forum Heading that this message is under.

"Current Challenge: Discuss the current challenge and how you feel about it or ideas you may have…"

I REALLY don't understand this.

I think you got caught by the outtake police. Discussing entries/alternates while a challenge is in the submission or voting stage is considered a no no.
02/16/2007 07:37:05 PM · #3
Perhaps because there was already another thread discussing the current challenge?
02/16/2007 07:38:52 PM · #4
... "another"? ... There are two PAGES of threads listed about street photography ...
02/16/2007 07:43:05 PM · #5
I just went to the forums page and did a search on 'street photography' and the other thread was at the top. What did you search on?
02/16/2007 07:47:36 PM · #6
Search / advanced "street" (Subject checked, Body unchecked)

FWIW, it doesn't matter whether the photo you posted for discussion was similar to your entry, or even if you *have* an entry. The discussion you started was effectively an outtakes discussion, and as such isn't allowed.
I know this is not a universally popular rule, but it is one that the community asked for and supported in a poll; it's therefore one the SC has to support.

Your thread specifically asks for comments on your images about a challenge coming up in two days. Even though you said your entry was totally different, if you had an overwhelming response to one image you may have a similar outtake and change your mind and enter that. I am not saying that you would do that but that is what I believe the SC is trying to protect against in general. Just my opinion.

Oh man ... I am not gonna argue all the current discussions about this challenge that have photos in them. MAN ... it can only have been flagged as a no no because I had a notice in it to the "Outake Police" that stated that there were NO images mentioned in it that were even CLOSE to my submission. There are so so so many posts saying ... "Do you think THIS qualifies for a submission into street photography?" ... Do you think THIS shot would score good in the current street photography challenge?" ... All I did was ask people to look at my new additions to my "In The Street" folder in my portfolio and critique em.

Sheesh! ... Have a nice day.

My entry is totally different and will not be changed. I would not have even considered putting something close into my portfolio before the challenge was concluded.

As my grandchildren would say ... WhatEVER! ...

For what it's worth, I sent in the ticket about your outtake thread. I'm one of the people that raised hell about outtake threads until the current forum rules were implemented. I have always thought that posting outtakes before the end of a voting period takes away from the current challenge and can even deter people from entering. How would you like it if you entered a shot in a challenge. Then in the forums you saw someone elses shot that was kinda like yours but WAY better. How would you feel? Would you pull it from the challenge? To do so would rob you of the learning opportunity wouldn't it?

If you are gonna hate, hate on me...

I don't have hate for anyone. I just say this ...

nitpick nitpick nitpick ... TONS of recent (since the announcement of the challenge) outake shots on street photography in the forums ... they just don't have a notice mentioning to the "Outake Police" that their shot has nothing to DO with the current challenge. They just say do you think THIS would qualify for your definition of Street Photography and do YOU think this is good Street Photography? VERY thinly veiled, IMO. But I am not about to go hunt em down and list em and send a "ticket" in on em ... sheesh ...

I hope you had a super day being a self appointed guardian of our morality and safeguard of our sensitivities and insecurities.

BLEH!

That's too bad because if you found threads that had shots taken this week I would report them too. I'm sure if you look in those threads they are refering to shots taken previous to the challenge being announced...

I prefer to think of myself as a member of a community that I feel passionately about. Outtake threads are not good for the community...

Hi guys! Can we keep this thread on track, please? Greetmir, you've gotten some answers regarding why your original thread was removed. Is there anything else (constructive) you'd like to discuss with relation to this subject?

Last I checked, deciding not to do something for fear of failure was not 'being robbed' but 'cowardice'. Thank god the community enforces such healthy outlooks.

I disagreed with the locking of the thread and said so ... then debated points put forth by others ... I was a tad angry at first but I am over it and now it is just getting funny ...

I am finished ranting if others are ...
