NOTE: The higher your score the more points you earn. Rk is based on the photographer with the most points.

Have fun!
SDW

ETA: If you find a discrepancy let me know. This is the first time I have run the macro.

Hmmm. something ain't right. Not that I had stellar result (sub-5) but I haven't scored a 0. Neither did Slippy:-) (He's got over 6, and his score shows 0 too).

Scott--I missed signing up for this. But I am planning on doing all the free studies. Is it to late to join?

Yea, I will take care of it for you. I will update tomorrow.

Should be working OK now. Let me know if anyone finds any more problems.

Thanks,

What I'd like to see is a column of numbers so you can easily see the ranks a person is at. It's easy if you're third or third last, but what if you're stuck in the middle?

Isn't it strange, that there are some people with good scores in the January Free Study now crawling out of their holes and say they "missed" to sign-up. Where have you been the last two months or so?
[/rant_mode]

Scott, please sign me OUT, I'm pissed. Thanks.

Yeah, especially after he only made reminder announcements every day up until the "Supposedly" last day to register, which was nearly a month ago.

Time to take a stand and stick by your original deadline. If you missed it too bad.

NOT AT ALL.

ETA: Unfortunately my english is not good enough to share my thoughts about this into detail, all I can say is: when I heard of the FSM, I didn't hesitate to sign in, although I never had a score above 6.17 in a Free Study (in fact, most of my scores were in the 4s and 5s), so I didn't see a chance to reach a decent (in my measurement) placing. Don't anyone tell me he has not heard of FSM before today.

Signing in weeks after the deadline and after the first challenge results, seeing one has made a really good score is just cowardish. I'd only accept a late signing-in if the results of the first challenge were not counted for those.

If you go back to the original deadline, you'll have to bomb me, I registered a day or so after.

I genuinely didn't find out about it in the forums 'til then.

This *is* only the first one......maybe we could make some concession to the end results if the January score is the clincher or something......

Or how about if the cumulative points score for anyone entering starts when they enter?

That'd be fair.

At least you signed in before the voting started.

eyewave, although I don't feel firectly target by your post (my free study score was above average but no more), I'd like to point out that although I'm genuinely trying to participate on DPC as much as my heavy work allows me to, I simply never saw the marathon thread before.

I think's it's a great idea, and as I intended to do a real effort this year to participate in all free studies, I would be keen to participate. That is, if noobs that do not know all what happens in the DPC community are welcome.

Now I would think that the goal here is to have fun. I wonder if some people are not taking this too seriously...

However for those who are taking this seriously:
(i) there are 12 challenges, so the weight of challenge #1 is pretty limited, even if you had a blue ribbon

(ii) the goal is to measure yourself up against the larger croud to improve and also a a source of motivation, not to be pissed of because your chances of winning are potentially lower because someone with a higher score on challenge #1 just asked to be allowed in.

Sorry but gotta say i just lost a little respect for you. seems a little strange to quit because some other good players want to play. I was also gonna ask to join too and i got a 5.3 this time. I was away from the site for a few months so that is why i missed the original form. The trully great competitors in history WANT to compete against the best. the don't quit when good people come in.

I've only been a member a little less then a month. I wondered why I didn't notice this until this morning. I've been glued to this site since I joined. When I noticed this I thought it would be great to be involved in, even though I only scored a 5.2. But if it's too late and people are getting upset, that's fine. I'll wait until next year.

mouten and Elvis_L, as stated before, I know I don't have the slightest chance to win the FSM (not even to make it to the top 10, as I rarely enter landscapes), I was in just for fun and, of cause, to compete with those who are BETTER than me. (that's why I participate in challenges, anyway).

A deadline is a deadline. Example: When I return from a vacation and notice, there has a challenge been going on with a subject I could handle easily and make a good score, but the deadline is over, I would never write to the SC and ask to let me enter my shot. Would you?

Nikon_Jeb and me just suggested not to count the first month for those who signed-in too late - if you were participating in a sporting event, let's just say a marathon, and you started too late, you also had to bear that time was already counting. Thats the spirit of sports.
