Hi everyone its me again :) lol.
Im just starting out and i havent done many portrait type pictures with models yet but my friend's band is looking to get some pictures taken and they wanted me to do it. I told them i havent had much experience with it but the only way to gain experience is to actually do it so im gonna give it a shot. I just had a few questions, I dont have a studio or anything yet so we are going to go somewhere and shoot. use natural lights and whats around us. is there anything more i need to bring (equipment etc) besides my 50mm 1.8 Lens Tripod and of course my Cam. lol. This is like my first time actually shooting people and i know its going to take a ton of practice but i was wondering if anyone had any advice, pointers,..anything.. :)

thanks in advance..

I would try not to be too tempted to go too wide with your aperture, especially as with nautral light only you might have trouble getting enough light in. Becuase if you do gho down too 'shallow' you risk only having one person in focus and not the rest.

More importantly have fun and good luck!
I can't wait to see the results.

Since it is a band, I would recommend using your 18-55mm lens as well!
Choose a well lit day and a place where you can find both shadow and open area.. rusty old barn, railway tracks, torn down industrial site will be great locations to shoot a band!

ask them to bring (or carry) some props - as in different hats, scarfs and jackets...carry a reflector (if you have one)

( Edit ) and basically have fun :) and post the results here!

The best thing you can do for ANY shoot is to be prepared as you possibly can before hand. Google band photos to give you some ideas of poses you want to try - you don't want to be at the location and have them standing around while you decide what to do with them, it wastes your time & theirs. I even print poses or shot ideas that I like then I can ask the client "do you want to try something like this?"

Take extra batteries and memory cards.
