How about a challenge on lighting - something that's not as easy to master, but can be done with basic desklamp/paper, etc so there's no advantage in having expensive lighting equipment. Or maybe just the best natural lighting shot. Or backlighting. There are many options.

ok your suggestion was some time ago.. and i thought about this yesterday as i was driving around.. this would be a good idea!

take photos of how light is cast upon something, basically that the photo wouldn't look the same way if the object didn't have light on it that certain way..

make any sense?

anyway, i vote yay for this suggestion :)

I think that natural lighting would be great!!! All you would have to do is walk outside of your house! Plus, natural lighting could be lightning, sun, anything... am I right?

Yes. I and others have suggested this before (I think Mag' did too!). It is a very important part of photography afterall... Would be good to focus on it, rather than just use it (purposefully or by accident).

TERRIFIC suggestion.

This seems to go hand in hand with 'shadows'. It would be hard to make the distinction between focusing on the light and focusing on the shadow the light creates (unless u have a sort of bleached out image) ... but that's exactly what would make it a great challenge. I like! :-)

Will this picture be considered as lightning or shadows?

You guys are trying to kill me aren't you?? I think lighting is the thing that irritates me the most about something. I'd go crazy with all the funky lighting...LOL. But it might be fun.

Lighting is a bit vague... If there is anything visible beyond a jet black image, then there is light... I think it would need a qualifier, like axalot's suggestion of "natural light" or maybe "backlight" or "sidelight" or "artificial light" or, whatever...

But "Lighting" is just to broad...

I think 'light' is too vague. I think we need to do something more like 'headlights'. I think that would be fun subject to do in the middle of the highway.lol!

kind of on this same line...we could do a challenge called "still life in the dark" it could be a photo of anything as long as it's taken in the dark. however you want to light the subject is up to you. as long as it's taken in the dark. I can't take photos in the dark to save my life...would be a great learning experience.

My photo this week(can't tell you which one) was lit by holding a cheap desk lamp in on hand, while shooting with the other. In my comments people have been saying how much they love the lighting!
Who needs professional lights!
