What are the best sites to do online for customers to purchase prints online?

I need:
Ability to set custom markups on pricing
Excellent quality prints
Fairly low overhead for me
Password protected galleries
Regular payouts to me for profits on sales

With those criteria, I think most people will refer you to SmugMug, though I haven't used them myself.

It won't help you now, but pBase is slowly rolling out their print service, which includes the ability to order framed and matted prints. The limited demo they have up now is very impressive. I can't wait until the full system is ready for prime time. I'll be doing all my own printing-for-sale there.

... and I already have an account there -- I'll have to check it out.

Of course, if you just want to have a gallery of prints available to the general public you may as well post the images at DPC Prints as well ... : )

after spending a couple years looking for a suitable solution, i went with smugmug. if you are so inclined, feel free to take yourself a $5 discount, using my email address as your referral ;-) skip@skippix.biz www.smugmug.com

sure, they aren't perfect, but they have less problems and more flexibility and less cost than any of the other solutions i explored.

I'd been using dotphoto.com but people seem to have issues with the interface. Prints are good, but that doesn't do me a lot of good, if they can't order them easily. I'll check out smugmug. If I sign up, I'll hit your e-mail address skip :-)

Right now, I'm using Click Image. I have a website with them, and they offer print services, galleries, password protection, etc. I'm not sure I'm crazy about the was their interface works, especially setting it up on my end. But in all honesty, that could be because I haven't taken the time to sit down for an afternoon and really work through it, but rather have just done a bit at a time as needed.

They're at least worth checking out, and they are free to register with - no fees, just a portion of all sales go to them.

Edited to add link

Question about Smugmug:

If I wanted to integrate/move my site to be hosted by them, how hard is that?

I use printroom and I love them. They will meet all your criteria.

depending on how involved your site is, it may or may not be that hard. there are some incredibly sophisticated sites at smugmug, and a lot of tutorials about how to build them. some of it can be fairly easy, especially when it comes to masking your url to their service. there is also a lot of support through their forums, found at www.dgrin.com. you definitely might want to check that out before diving in, just to get a sense of the community...it's pretty much like the one you've found here.

Other than being stinking expensive, many of the top wedding photogs in the country use them.

oops, I was thinking of someone else. hmmmm.

edit again, I was thinking of Pictage @ $99/month.

We've just started using Digibug. We chose it because it's the most compatible with Gallery 2 (also works with other image gallery types as far as I know, but I'm not the webmaster), which we use on multiple websites. It looks like you can also use it without your own gallery by uploading things to their server. We've only gotten a handful of 4x6s so far, but the quality seems good on those. There's no base fee and you keep 85% of the profit.
