The results of the Procrastination challenge have been recalculated, due to the former 4th place having been created from the layering of 3 separate exposures. Congrats to our new 4th, 5th, and 10th placers!

Man, how many 1 entry = 1 DQ people have we had lately?

Sorry to hear about DQ. The photo, and the photographer, are outstanding.

HDR, I assume?

Looks that way. And a very interesting HDRI it was, too... Bummer. I'll beat the dead horse a little more and say IMO this should be allowed in advanced editing...

That's what the Expert rules are for ;oP

That and multi-source composites of fantastical images, which this one surely was not...

Personally, that is the only thing about expert editing I like. Myself, I'm not into adding a moon or other objects in to my shots. Just would like the ability of more control over my exposures.

I agree with Bear and Ace to further beat this dead horse. HDR when used to correct exposure is no different than using lens correction to correct perspective. Advance editing should allow both.

Ok, so help me here, please...

I just want to make sure I understand this:

If I open a single RAW file in Photomatix, it generates a pseudo-HDR image which I then do some tone mapping on that image.

This is legal in Advanced but not basic? Why is it not allowed in basic rules?

I just want to understand what exactly is allowed and I am still learning pp and not sure what is ok and what is not...I have the general idea but I don't really know how to use most features in PS.

Basically the DQ'd image actually used 3 DIFFERENT images instead of 3 different exposure levels from ONE RAW file?

In basic you can make "HDR" or tonemapping from one raw file that you have "developed" once...

In advanced you can make HDR from several "developments" from the same raw file

In Expert you can make HDR from several different exposures/raw files

That's how it is - and that's how it should stay IMO

the announcement has been made.

If you would like to continue discussing the merits,or lack thereof, of allowing HDR, I invite you to continue that in a thread designated as such. :)

This thread is now locked before it degenerates further.
