Your post will look like this... Welcome, and Happy New Year!
My wish is for success for all team members of "THE MOTLEY CREW".

One of the Roosevelts said Success is when practice meets opportunity. I'll have to look up the exact quote, since it is one of my favorites.

The origiinal Thread "Starting a WPL team" by NerdJNerdBird,
said "Let's rockkkkkkkkkkkkkk!"
Well now, Let's Rooooooooooooooll!

I think 14 o's or k's might subliminally
represent the possible number of entries per week for each team.

In no special order, except my name first...

Yeah, I may surprise myself by entering 2 challenges in one week. I may have done it once or twice. It is my new years resolution. What you think is not so good may score better. What you think is great, may score poorly.

Photos need fucus on subject, less minor distractions, the better. And also focused in sharpness, after websized.

Every member should at least be a paying member, then there are more challenges to choose from, one that fits your environment. This may possibly be a requirement for teams. Also more editing/fixing/fine tuning can be done afterwards for members-only chalenges.

Not sure exactly when yet I am going to be a paying member. After Christmas, there are a lot of other things I am going to be paying lol

I guess you need to decide now before the 14th if you want to start with a paying members only team. Let me know! :o)

Welcome aboard Baco - I cannot wait to see what pics you take with your camera. I just got mine and have been playing around with it a bit. Hate when it won't let me take a pic because it feels something is not in focus! (I have not totally given in to just using MF yet). How long have you had yours?
01/02/2007 04:29:46 PM · #9
i got mine right when i joined this site, in Aug.

try playing with the S-AF/MF setting. the camera choses first, then lets you fine tune the focus depending on where you want the emphasis.

it's a great camera. i just started playing with some settings in the last few weeks.

hopefully i'll be getting a new Mac for editing within the next month or so, will make the processing much easier!

i don't think payment should be required. there's a lot to learn even in Basic.
01/02/2007 04:56:53 PM · #11
Non-paying members can still enter challenges. Shouldn't stop anyone from playing. They just have to make sure the one shot is REALLY good! ;) How many of us are non paying?

We are sooooo quiet. Everyone must be working. I don't go back till next week. Could be doing housework - but this is more entertaining. What challenges are you going to be in this week? I'm in the Centered one.

I just finished up 133rd in the pattern contest with

It was a last min throw something on and see how it does type shot.
I got many comments that the string should have been removed. I thought of that but I didn't think I could get it back on. Its setting on gift wrap paper that also has a pattern. It actually did better than I would have thought.

My free study image is doing worse than I thought it would. It just creeped up to the 6.0 mark so its not toooo bad. I really like this image and it got high score on my stock site.

I also entered the Centered comp one. This was another last min shot. I uploaded with barely 2 min to spare. That will get the heart rate pumping! (I have been closer before) On the beer one, I hit the upload button just seconds before the site went down... had no clue if it was entered or not. That was nailbiting!

Feel free to let me know what you think about the Pattern image.

Oh and I shot my procrastination image last night. Its humorous so I doubt it will do very well! LOL

i plan to enter the BW portrait. and/or the song titles.

I saw a "pattern", maybe just this time.
2 out of 3, or 9 out of the top 10 were "Natural", but 3rd place was created in the "Studio".

While studio shots do win, the have to be flawless, that's technically flawless, yet depicting your intention.

I did actually have 2 of the girls in a candy shop move a window display and hold it while I snapped 3-4 quick shots. I then bought one of the caramal-coated/chocolate-covered apple-reindeers, with pretzel antlers. They would have tasted better "focused". I later thought about reshooting the single one I still have in the fridge for Free-Study.

I found a good pattern, but could have done better. My wife gave me one hour to shoot pictures in Niagara on the Lake, Canada.

It looked bright-enough on my Apple Cinema screen.
I will have to preview it on my Laptop or someone else's PC/MAC.
I should've had my tripod for longer exposure.

Teresa - left you a comment! The ornament pic is really lovely.

I am watching my centered pic slowly sink. Started at 6.3 this morning then the low voters came out and in about 5 votes I dropped to a 5.6. Not really sure why I watch the scores lol.

Yeah I've had so many last-minute, submit last few seconds, even missed a couple of times since I fell asleep.

You can submit something at all as early as you want. Then you can always swap it out for a different one later.

Shiny gold always looks good on a black or white background (in jewelry stores/ads) The pattern one could've almost been a "Centered" submission, too. Generally, experiment on lighting (amount/direction), shot angles (Top/Bottom/left/right).

Congratulations, you beat my pattern.

Thank you colorcarnival for your comments! The light side is due to the fact I only got one side finished on my studio setup. I did have 2 clip on lamps but they only had 100watt bulbs. I was going to get 3 more for each side to blast more light. But I found a fixture that holds a 300 watt bulb. I also got a sterine light cover to diffuse. I got the other side yesterday and it evens things out a lot better.
My centered pic has gone up to a 6.000 yeah!

Justamistere, I liked your image a lot. I like the angle. But a rule of thumb, if your going to tilt, tilt it where its obvious. Slight tilts usually get slammed. The only thing that I think detracts is the glare on the window. Sometimes you just have to make do. I hate forgetting my polarizer! never fails soon as I leave it, I need it!
You did get a lot of comments. Thats always a good thing!

...requesting ideas for our team logo, either description, colors, or pieces of artwork. I'll also get some stuff before this Sunday (or much sooner). I may incorporate the band members animated .gif's posted earlier.

Justa - about your patterned one - I like the idea of the stack o bubbly - but on my screen it was dark too. I think it would have been funny if you could have found a way to imply that you were drinking while taking the tilted picture. Nice pattern tho!

I had one idea for the team logo, the rock on hand symbol (that is what I call it) - and wikidpedia has a pic here....

wikipedia

but when i looked to see if other pics exist, I found that people are obsessed with it representing Satan - and here is a site that I found quite entertaining...

bush loves hand signals

Soooo my happy go lucky association with that gesture has now been tainted lol. I actually like the animated gif's tho - we need one taking pictures too.

I promised someone a while back a shot of my studio. This is stuffed between kitchen and dining area.

Nice, Teresa - would you be willing to share a link to your stock photos? I want to see your work!
01/03/2007 03:40:23 PM · #24
My main stock site is Photographers Direct. PD and search for TLM.
I have just started with Alamy and I have 9 images approved there as well. Lots more to come. Once I become well established on Alamy, I will add another Macro stock library to my client list. My shots

I have been listing on PD for about a year. I have about 300 images uploaded so far and my first sale was last month.
It was my 8th place Spots challenge entry. My goal is 1000 images.
