Looking around for a fisheye lens for my pentax DL.

Is this my only option?

Sure wish it was a f/1.8

Don't know if it's your only option, but it might be a good one. World's only zoom fisheye, quite a nice little concept from Pentax. I haen't seen *any* reviews on it though, so I dont' have any idea on image quality.
You don't really need fast aperture on a fisheye. You can hand-hold 'em at pretty low shutter speeds, and DoF is huge. At 10mm, you'd pretty muhc set focus and forget it, everything from a couple feet to infinity would be in focus.

That's good to know, was not thinking there. :)
Guess you should be able to hand hold it down to around 1/10" or so?

I googled that lens and think I found some photo's taken with it, I could not read all the text that went with the photo's I found.

There's this one //www.tokinalens.com/products/tokina/atx107afdx-a.html

The optical system was a joint development between Pentax and Tokina, but the coatings may differ, and the build is different.

You can get an adpater that will let you use M42 screw mount lenses on your camera.

That would let you use the Peleng 8mm fisheye on your *istDL. It's a bargain at only $249.

Santa Claus was kind enough to bring me the Pentax 10-17 lens, and I'm very happy with it. Very sharp in the centre, and doesn't lose it that much on the edges. Almost no chromatic abberation, and very tight focusing on close subjects. Although I mostly use it between 10 and 12mm, at 17mm it makes for a very nice (although slow) wide angle, with a pleasing barrel distortion.

I'll also echo Spazmo's comment about the M42 adapter. For the 30 bucks or so it costs, it opens up a whole world of beautiful / cheap / 'interesting' manual focus glass.

Besides the Pentax 10-17 fisheye, both Samsung & Tokina are making their version of the lens (same optical formula with different costmetics). The Tokina might not be available in Pentax mt yet however.

The Peleng is alot of fun, but on any SLR other than 4/3rds cameras (Olympus, Panasonic) you will get severely cropped corners. If you go with the Peleng get a M42 to K- mount adapter so that you can slightly unscrew it for dramatic close-ups like Kirbic's great image...

The Zenitarcomes in K mount and is a surprisingly sharp lens for the price. No AF though and you'll need to use stop down metering.

Popular Photography review of the Pentax 10-17 fisheye. The pentax forum on dpreview also has lots of sample shots.

Looks like a good lens, one thats certainly on my wish list. Im very impressed with the quality of the ED glass in my DA 50-200, so I would expect the same quality out of the 10-17.

UPS tracking say's I should have my pentax 10-17 in the morning. I went into work this morning and told them I would not be around Thursday. Got to go play. :)
