It looks like DPChallenge is going to have a free study challenge each month. If they continue it in 2007, would you like to participate in the “2007 Free Study Marathon”? Here is how it works.

I will make up a points sheet and enter everyone that wishes to participate. You will receive points based on your score for every free study during 2007. The photographer with the most accumulated points at the end of 2007 will win the marathon. The amount of points you can earn is based on how many participants enter a particular free study. If a particular free study has 150 entries and out of those 150 entries 100 are participants in the marathon and you came in 1st place you would receive 100 points, 2nd place 99 point, last place 50 point. Points are only for participants and since they are the ones that competing then the nonparticipating entries will not count, that’s why the minimum amount of points you can receive will equal the amount of participants.

The results will be placed on the WPL site but you do not have to be participating in the WPL. This is open to any DPChallenge member.

What do you guys/gals think? Fun?

If you would like to participate all you have to do is PM me.

EDIT: off to see the Doctor, I will check thread when I get back.

I love the idea! But what if Langdon decides not to keep doing monthly Free Studies?

Sounds like a good idea to me!
If there's not one every month, then the marathon can just become a half-marathon :P

I'd join in, but how does last place get 50 points if 100 participants are in? I guess I'm a bit confused on your scoring methodology.

Thank you for calling me on that. I had it confused. I just run the macro and here is how it works.

Lets say the free challenge has 500 entries but we only have 200 participants. Then the maximum points you can get in a free study is 200 points (because we have 200 participants) if you come in 1st, 199 for 2nd place, 198 for third, and so on. If you do not participate in that free study or come in last you will only receive 1 point.

Your points will be added together each week and accumulated. The photographer with the most points at the end of the year is the winner.

ETA: Keep in mind 1st place is not 1st place in the challenge, it is first place among the participants.

Sounds like fun, although I never seem to do that well LOL. Might make me work harder for a better shot.

Anyone that wants to participate needs to send me a PM before January 15th, 2007. The reason I want it send via PM is I can copy your username ( eliminating spelling errors). I have to place all usernames in the macro so when it runs it will pull up everyones score automatically.

The '2007 Free Study Marathon' results will be posted at the www.wpleagues.com site so everyone can view each months scores, points, and rank. It will show you how far behind or a head you are compared to the other participants. you do NOT have to be a member of the WPL to participate.

You MUST PM me if you want to join. That's the only way I can assure that I have everyone entered correctly. Also if you change usernames during the year, make sure you let me know by PM so I can change your name.

Ladies!

Do you realize that only 5 women have responded to this thread, and 12 men have?

Oh, I hope we've just PM'ed Scott without mentioning it here, 'cause wouldn't it be just lovely for us to win? Let's do it.
