I am noticing plenty of discussion about the Death scores and results, but discussion around Life II seemed to grind to a halt a few days ago. Is it that people are subdued about

a) the results
b) their own low scoring submissions
c) un-exciting challenge in general

I just found that this time around I missed the mark completely. My 10 came in about 130th and the top scorers were by and large 6's and 7's in my book. "Life" is such a huge, almost Free Study type topic, that people submitted anything and everything..leaving voters a bit adrift I think.

But congrats to the top scorers...just because i didn't necessarily think each and every one represented "Life" doesn't mean they weren't great shots and deserved to be placed!!

I agree its been pretty subdued and I really was expecting some unbelievable images but for me their was few gems. I knew mine was not a high scoring dpc entry but I was amazed I got 19 comments during voting on an image that came 76th.

this was my pic of the bunch

I was happy to see I was just outside of the top 10 for my second entry, and even more happy to see comments that I'll take and help improve my photography. I've only been 'doing' photography for just over a year, so every bit helps....

However...... I was concerned there were a number of 1-3 scores but there does not seem to be any constructive feedback other than to avoid the topic I shot. ? Are there really people on this site who have such a narrow view and allow their opinions of a subject matter cloud their judging to the exclusion of more 'objective' merits (technical for example)? I am aware that at the end of the day our scores are arbitrary and we must use some level of subjective and even subconcious interpretation.

But to score a one for this shot? I could not do that to anybody without a full and frank opinion as to why. And, I will never allow my subjective view on a matter influence my score.

I am focusing on street photography and take them as I see them, without trying to use the images to influence anybody's opinion.

Please see my pbase site for my shots pre-DPChallenge days for further examples...

To be honest I was surprised to not see more low votes on your entry in general. It was one of my top picks for the challenge but these types of images and messages can sometimes get hit pretty hard. Religious themes can be as volatile as nude entries. I woudlnt worry about those ten 3 and under. Just part of the normal voting curve.

yeah, it was a candid with a religious theme and the focal points were small. your score and position were miraculous.

Thanks for your support; I'm glad you took the time to respond.

I was about to give up my account on this site but you have motivated me to come up with a challenge winner. Thanks. And by the way....nice result on the Life II challenge - another goal reached.

Your entry is more of a "street photography" photo or a snapshot. Snapshots usually carry low votes here at DPC.

a 3-1-6 1-3 votes distribution isn't terrible for a 10th place shot. It's perhaps a bit high, but not by much. The subject matter likely got you a few extra votes, but the clear quality of the shot pulled you through.

My superstition photo which involved my wife stabbing me with a knife garnered a 7-3-8 1-3 distribution. It was still enough for the yellow, so don't sweat them.

A great photo. Going to favorites.
