I have a question for all you Absoluters out there: Don't the Absolut ads usually use the Absolut bottle as some kind of "filter" so that what you see through the bottle is different than the rest of the background. For example, the bottle has been placed in a winter scene, but when you look at the portion behind/through the bottle it's a warm sunny summer day. Or was this an ad campaign that's since gone by the wayside?

And lest anybody think otherwise, I'm NOT voting any of the Absolut ads lower because they didn't match the real world advertising campaign. I'm just asking a question... Since I remembered the ads that way, I was surprised nobody went that route.

the ads you are thinking of are the "smirnoff illusion ads".

Oops -- my bad on the Absolut/Smirnoff deal. Don't drink so I can't say as I pay loads of attention to the ads, but I'd remembered thinking some of those were clever.

The html tags in the forum AREN'T normal html tags -- If you want to see what the commands are, click on the link that says "Built in Commands" at the bottom of your posting box. That'll give you a run down.

yes, me too. i dont understand anyone that says that advertising and photography for advertising isn't creative. IMO it's one of the most creative media out there.

Yeah, it was a Smirnoff vodka campaign. The Absolut adverts are usually the bottle with something done to it and a title that 'explains' the joke. E.g., a bottle with all the letters blowing off and Absolut Chicago. or a larger than normal bottle with Absolut Texas. That sort of thing. I think all the absolut ads in this competition fall quite well under the typical style.

I never did understand the Smirnoff ones though. What's the message ? Smirnoff vodka distorts your world view ? Drink Smirnoff and see things that aren't there ?

Maybe its like the those glasses from Them and They Live, where when they put the glasses on they can see who is human and who is really an alien. Well maybe the Smirnoff drink gives you a sort of third eye to see things as they really are..... nah I doubt it.

Actually I think its just that there are traces of LSD in Smirnoff.
