my mother wants to get me a new camera bag for christmas and I can't seem to find one I like. I want one that doesn't look like a camera bag. I remember seeing one in an issue of shutterbug a long time ago that looked like a messenger bag and I really liked it but I can't find it again.

if anyone has any suggestions or ones that I should not get I would love to hear from you

Check out www.crumpler.com.au. They have non-camera bag looking bags. No obvious camera brand labeling on the outside. From those who've purchased them I've heard nothing but good comments.

You might also look at www.thinktankphoto.com. They have great camera bags, again without the typical camera branding on the outside that screams "Look at me! I'm a camera bag. Steal Me!". I own the Speed Demon and love it.

Neither are particularly inexpensive but both companies make excellent bags.

Good luck with the search.

I have a crumpler and love it, only thing - it does not have a built in rain jacket like many camera bags - so I put a small shower cap in it - just case of an emergency!

Okay, is it just me, or do the crumpler websites all look like they've been badly hacked?

If you want something really nice, check out one of these:

This one is a lot more reasonably priced, but still canvas and waterproof:

This is what I currently have - it's big enough to hold:
Canon 1N, no vertical grip
Leica M3, Voigtlander 35mm 2.5 (tiny lens)
Pentax 135mm and 55mm, Peleng 8mm fisheye
14 rolls of film in a ziplock bag
About 20 filters screwed together and in padded pouches on the outside
M42 extension tubes
Various adapters and rings

I'm happy with it, although you might not like it because it does look like a camera bag. I've used it pretty well for almost a year, and there's like no signs of wear or anything tearing on it.

Both of the other two should be able to hold about as much stuff, too. I'd go with the Domke for a nondescript bag (actually, I am thinking about buying it later on)

I just bought a crumpler 6 million dollar bag. I'm already in love with it. Fits more than all my gear with room leftover for another flash and probably 2 more lenses or body/lens.

Definitely look at Crumpler. Other brands offer may offer one or two bags that don't look like a traditional camera bag, but Crumpler's entire line is designed that way, so you've got a lot more options in terms of size and layout.

At first I got the Expedition 7, which looked like a comfortable backpack. Usually for short everyday excursions, I don't need to carry everthing around with me.

I have found bags that hold my Zoom lens attached and readily available, are the best.

I got one for $70, and it holds three zooms, lens filters, Batteries, 1-Flash-Unit, yet smaller than a backpack.

Check out a variety of sizes and styles of Tamrac bags under "Holster Tele-Zoom Packs" at: Tamrac homepage

I have the Crumpler Keystone....and LOVE it.

It's sweet looking backpack, that cannot be opened at all unless it's off your back. I was really surprised at how solid this little guy was and how much padding they have packed in there.

Overall, it's just a high-quality bag with that does its job.
