Recently I installed several Windows updates and now find that all my PSCS2 preferences have been set to default. UGH!!! Any way around this is the future?

Buy a Mac ... sorry couldn't resist but to be totally honest ... you should

Ok now, let's not start a Mac PC war. All my buddies are graphic designers or studio engineers and they keep bragging about Macs. Well, I put my PC head to head with all of their Macs and beat them hands down with speed, reliability, and crashes! My PC cost me $1000 compared to their 5-6000$ Macs. I also like paying 1/2 the cost for software compared to Mac software. I have yet to see a Mac that kicks ass.

Ye gods! Where do you get a Mac for $6000? Apple's most expensive 3ghz quad-core Xeon PowerMac retails for $3299 (and is MUCH cheaper than an equivalent Dell). I won't even get into speed- Apple uses the same processors as PCs, but with generally better subsystems.

Perhaps they are referring to the Macs that come equipped with the solid gold mouse. :P

Maybe candlerain may have been referring to Canadian dollars? (according to his profile, that's where he is from)

EDIT: never mind--that's still around $5200 in US currency. That seems too expensive.

To the best of my knowledge, most of Adobe's settings are stored in
C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\Adobe
and possibly
C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe

I'm not sure about preferences (which are probably stored in the registry) but things like EXIF templates, window arrangements, scripts and actions are stored in the above folders. Backup, backup and backup some more.

I have a nightly script that copies everything in those folders to my photography drive (which is mirrored) and gets backed up weekly.

Update

It seems that Adobe's preferences are stored in the registry at
HKCU\Software\Adobe
You could back that up with the following script
REG EXPORT HKCU\Software\Adobe BACKUP_LOCATION

Preferences are stored in the Prefs.psp or Adobe Photoshop CS2 Prefs.psp file found usually in C:\Documents and Settings\ [user name] \Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\9.0\Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings

Lotsa bling and some 24" spinners too.

But yeah, Mac is the way to go.

Yes guys... I am talking in Canadian dollars. My buddy just paid $6000 for his Mac. The reason why it is that much is because of the 10 input pro audio card and Cubase SX 3 that he ordered with it. Still way too much IMO.
11/17/2006 01:44:16 PM · #13
That must be some audio! A dual-core Xeon PowerMac workstation (which already includes optical digital audio input/output) retails for $2799 in Canada and would smoke most PCs, so don't blame a $6000 price tag on Apple! A similar Dell would likely cost much more.

Why is it everytime someone starts a PC or Canon thread someone always has to chime in a say "Buy a Mac" or "Buy a Nikon". It also works the other way around so I am not being biased. Can't we just answer the question and all the PC haters skip it. Dammit

That is the beauty of this world we all have a choice of what to buy. If not everything would be very expensive and if someone chooses to buy a PC why do Mac users have to bash. S.T.F.U.

WELL SAID!!!

Whenever I open one of these threads I get deja vu....

"Windows is evil....Linux doesn't have any software......Mac is great......Canon Sucks.....Nikon Blows.....If you had......"

Why can't we just help someone with thier problem? Thank you to those that did offer advice and helpful suggestions.

Sorry I just got out of meeting with owners that set me off
Anybody looking for a property manager with a degree in biology and photography experience? Willing to relocate.

Ignore that I think that would qualify as a high jack of the thread.

Have a great day, I'am going to go pull a blanket over my head and wait for the bad people to go away.

Because everyone else hates to hear people whine about the poor choice they made.

was gonna say they chime in because they believe they made the correct choice.. or they're just bitter that the marketing didn't live up to the hype ;)
