Kind of an opposite of the stopped motion, the image should show motion trails.

heh, I can just see everyone trying to recreate their 'bad' entries for the stop motion challenge so that they are good for the motion trails one :)

I think all of the people with cameras with rear flash functions would have a real advantage.

So?

People with shutter priority controls had an advantage for the stopped motion challenge (I had a very low-end camera at the time).

I think key to this one will be the fact that a lot of shots that are really good for stopped motion are bad for motion trails... waterdrops, for instance, or the lightbulb (Arnit's toaster would be hilarious, though).

Stopped motion streched our minds in one direction, maybe this would stretch them in the other.

clubjiggle,

check these motion trail long shutter speed shots out. i know this stuff has prolly been done before, but I kind of stumbled on the technique on my own. These are 8 second exposures.

in particular, check out the images 'horror demon', 'proboscis', and 'trailer park psycho' for what can be done using motion trails to actually create 'substance' that isn't there.

motion trail fun

I think the same people (like me) who couldn't enter the stop motion challenge because of lack of camera adjustments won't be able to enter motion trails. I for one have no control over shutter speed ISO etc

It's possible. I've gotten on-purpose motion trails with my Fuji (no specific shutter/aperture controls, just +/- exposure compensation). If you take your photo on a tripod in a darker location, set the camera to overexpose ~.5 stops, you'll get motion trails. Of course, not as easy to control as if you could set the camera to 1/10th of a second.

I've also tried holding an SLR-sized ND filter over the lens and taking the picture that way, which also works.
