The guidance for the "All Alone" challenge is:

"A single object or subject, composed and shot to give a feeling of loneliness or solitude."

Does that mean, literally, a single object or subject? As in, no other objects or subjects in the frame?

Here are a couple of examples, not necessarily good ones, but my question is, in your opinion, would they meet the requirements of the challenge?

Theoretical Shot #1
-------------------
Man stares forlornly at the gravestone of his dead wife. Not only is there one subject and one object, but there are (presumably) many other objects (ie. other gravestones) in the shot.

Theoretical Shot #2
-------------------
Shot of one red M&M in a sea of blue M&Ms. OK, so there are many objects in the shot. But there is just one red M&M, all alone. Does this meet the challenge?

Anyway, I'm not trying to be intentionally facetious, just trying to consider what would and would not be a valid shot.

I figured a post like this would be acceptable given there is an entire forum dedicated to discussing the current challenge, but if this goes beyond what one should ask about a challenge in progress, I will gladly accept the requisite smackdown.

Interpret the subject as you deem necasary !

Its all about the mind and how you see the art itself my friend... look forward to your submissions.

PS Posts such as these give alot of ideas away to those lacking inspiration ;0) not a bad thing for others mind but if you want to stay a step ahead of the game in the contest its a good idea to keep good thoughts to yourself in my mind anyhow :0) seeing how you wanted feedback though theres nout wrong there !!!

Good thoughts !

It's worth noting that a lot of voters don't ever read the challenge instruction it. Nor a lot of submitters, come to that.

I'm kinda new to this but I get the feeling from the other challenges that the interpretation of the challenges is highly subjective. I personally like that it is but some folks have a system in rating (as DPC suggests) that includes relevancy to the challenge theme. I think as long as the theme is somehow expressed in your shot, you are good to go. good luck!

Both theoretical shots, in my opinion, fit the challenge. Besides, how can something be alone, if it isn't surrounded by a bunch of something else(space, air, etc)? OK that was a bad analogy, perhaps. But the M&M thing is a good example of something amongst others but still alone. Either shot works for me!
