I have a few wuestions related to stock photography in general, and hope some of you guys out there can help me out!!

1) I'm doing research for a client that wants to start a stock photography website but only for his product. So it would all be photos related to his product. Since it's an international company any of the store/franchise owners could buy the photos online, download them and decorate their store with nice posters. Is there somewhere where I can procure myself a simple plug&play stock image website? or do I need to look into getting a web designer? How safe is this? What issues/problems would I encounter with online business? I've heard bad things about PayPal, eswpecially for people doing business from China (like me) is there any truth to this?

2) with all this reasearch of online stock photo agencies I'm starting to think to send some of my stuff for sale. But, I'm wondering who out there is really "the best"? Who do you guys use? 50% of 1$ doesn't seem like it's worth the trouble... is it? Are there stock agencies that allow you to have your own online gallery?

from the fourms
more here

There are plenty of posts here on the subject and I'm sure a 1000 times more to be found on Google.
I guess after reading your post I wonder why he would want his own stock photography site? However if he's paying you large sums of money I wouldn't question. :) As far as safe, watermark or limit access to password.
No it's not much money but there is big money to be had and plenty written about some success stories. I know there is a post here on DPC about that but I can't find it.
I enjoyed your photos. I hope you'll jump in and enter here at DPC.

Some of the wedding/event photography sites have download options on them. You can password protect the portfolio, too. That seems like a good option unless he's talking about putting 200,000 images up or something like that. I'm trying printroom.com

Rob & Justine, thanks!

Talked more to the people involved this morning. So I'm now basically looking for a plug&play webdesign for selling the photos online. For now it would only be my studio uploading images, but eventually we're thinking of opening up the site to other photographers to upload their images there as well.

If we just went to another website iStock or Corbis or which ever we would end up mixed in the pack of tens of thousands of other photos... this way it's only photos related to his product. I guess it makes sense when you're looking at hundreds of thousands of selling points around the globe for your product.

As for myself, I've been reading as much as I can here on DPC, the information is aq bit overwhelming and merky in the details, so I guess I'll just have to try it out. To me it seems clear now that I'd be waisting my time if I went to iStock and the likes... but then I'd have to be accepted to Corbis or those bigger players.

And Justine, thanks for the comment... I'm at my second entry with Brokeh III and it's doing a bit better than my first one with lighting - which was a toal disaster in the score! :P
