So I went to Utah this weekend to watch a taping of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition". It was awesome. Problem was, the sun was in just the wrong place, so lots of my pictures are really washed out. Any ideas on how to fix them?
Oh, and in reference to my subject line -- I got through most of one day of taping before my battery died. Then I realized I forgot my battery charger. I went to three different stores, and none of them had a matching battery that was already charged or a battery charger. So I had to miss taking pictures on the day the family actually came home! The moral to this story is: when traveling, NEVER FORGET YOUR CHARGER! NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT!!!
So what piece of camera equipment do YOU never leave home without?

I forget my polarizer sometimes, which sucks if I need it...
I forgot the CF card and battery too many times to admit when I first got the camera, until I got spares :p

I never, Never, NEVER leave home without camera, lens choices, three 4GB cards, three batteries, filters (most times). And yes, I wish I had a pack mule by then LOL
For overnight or longer, I always take a charger and everything I basically have at home.

| I would love to see them once they are fixed. Extreme Makeover is mine amd my family's favorite show. We never miss it. |

Don't that just suck. I don't know how many times I've went shooting and about 20 shots into it realized there was no card in the camera. Now I have a strap that holds 2 spare cards and I also disabled the "shoot without card function"

I always make sure I have my battery charger, but just in case I always keep some AA Alkalines in my bag. My Pentax K100D also takes AAs in addition to CR-V3 Lithiums.
I also keep a spare 1Gb SD card and several smaller capacity cards. I can't tell you how many times I've left a card in my PC while I'm out in the field.
Finally, my camera's user manual is always in my bag, too. I refer to it when I need a rarely-used feature.

I have a strap like that too. One night I drove 45 minutes up into the mountains to do a long exposure shot of the Space Shuttle/Space Station as they passed overhead right next to Jupiter and the Moon. Once in a lifetime opportunity. It was a little breezy, so I took the strap off the camera to prevent vibrations on the tripod and left it at home.
I thought I had my 4 gig card in the camera, so no need to bring the extra cards for one shot. Got everything set up and tried to take a test shot but no go. Flyover was in 15 minutes, so no time to go back home, instead I sat there kicking myself as they passed overhead. So now if I take the strap off, I put it in the front pocket of my bag. |

Please post some examples of your photos so we can try to fix them. You should be able to duplicate the layer and set it to overlay to bring out more detail/color/contrast in the washed out areas. You can do this multiple times, and you can adjust the opacity of the layers to your liking. You can also mask parts of the images if needed. Post an example for us to work with...
As for Extreme Home Make Over, I attended one here near Colorado Springs. They used teams of horses to pull down the old house (actually, they weren't strong enough. They ran steel cables to structural elements in the house and pulled it down with bulldozers. On camera, it looked like the horses did it).

Really glad Pentax uses 4 AA's (or 2 CRV3's) in both the camera and flash. I'm sure I'll end up somewhere with dead batteries, so I know I can quickly pick some up at a corner store.
You'd think for a product that isn't in the mainstream with Canon/Nikon would likely have also have proprietary battery. Now if only the product was supported better by 3 party products.

Registered users don't have a portfolio on here where you can upload photos. You'd have to become a member for that, but it's a good excuse to be a member. If you have the photos on another website you can link to them here with the little icon  above, but keep in mind people usually don't like big files embedded in a thread. |

I once forgot the bring my extra memory cards on vacation.
It sucked coz then I had to use a mid-compressed JPEG setting to fit all my shots into a tiny 256MB card! |

Been there,done that. Put the camera on its lowest setting so I could fit the whole week on it LOL.

Yeah, nowadays I just lug the everything along including a battery charger whenever I go places more than a day :p lesson learned |

| Remember the video of the guy pulling all kinds of crap out of his camera bag? Well, I'm that way with my car. I can just grab my camera bag, hop in my car and really not worry about it. Included in the list off the top of my head: change of clothes, clothes props, object props (fake flowers, clock, etc), a power converter, bottled water, chargers for my batteries and flashtrax and phone, tripod, knife, flash batteries, garbage bags, maps, a cooler, shoes, more bottled water, two way radio, paper towels, blanket, duraflame log, candles, flashlight, notebook... only thing that's missing is food but I ate that the last time. :) For me, all these are necessities as you never know where you'll end up... And I have actually had to use every one of these at the spur of the moment when out shooting. |

No worries about a battery charger for me, my daily carry around kit is a Nikon FA, a few primes with some Velvia and XP2 :)
