My first wedding shoot. I was going to post this awhile back but I didn't feel like hearing..."blown highlights"..."could use more contrast" "...too dark" and all that jazz.

It is, what it is sometimes.

John and Christina

I didn't use a flash because I wanted to capture candids which required as much blending into the crowd as I could manage. Outside of the obvious technical bull-oney I'd love to hear what you think.

Those are honestly the best wedding shots I've ever seen. You captured a TON of emotion and personality. and all ranges of it too. fun, serious..all of it. I also like the fisheye shots thrown in there. Very nice job! I have no issues with the quiality, lighting, comp wise. all of that seemed perfect. I think if you used a flash I probably would have had something negative to say. this way they are all so natural. beautiful job.

Hey steve
what lens /fstop were you using for most of the indoor shots
(these are very nice )

Steve,

There is always something to say about the processing of some pictures, but what it comes down to: You captured a lot of great moments and feelings, it feels like you were an insider. Not the outsider pg. I like it a lot, you held my attention for the full 8 minutes of the video and that says something as I have a lot other things to do. :)

Good job...I lol'ed at the kid with with the Polaroid. Nice catch.

when the culture of a photography web site makes a photographer of Steve's talent not want to post photos of this amazing caliber - there might be something wrong with the culture.

A very intimate and personal look at a obviously happy time for many people. This is terrific work.

I sat through the entire video as well, drawn into the event and emotions. It works for me because it puts the viewer in the midst of the action - forgoing the perfect poses, perfect lighting, perfect composition. This is photography! Sadly, this does not fly well in DPC challenges, where I feel the voters want all that perfection :(

That's great! You captured some fantastic moments! I really liked the final shot of the ring with the couple in background. NICE!

Those folks will be very pleased with the work you have done.
Fantastic group of photos.

I'm blown away. I usually find wedding photography boreing and too often technically sterile. This is fantastic. It's human. Thanks for shareing.

Steve I'd like to congratulate you on a wonderful job.
Digitalknight is absoulutely right. Seems that there's something really wrong when a very insightful and talented individual such as yourself hesitates even for a second to display such an excellent collection.
There are so many elements absent which would be typical of a wedding collection but instead what you captured was pure, unaffected emotion on so many levels and in such expert way. Perfect!
And Steve... no more hesitating... :)

this was your FIRST wedding? you're kidding me!!

beautiful & pure.

feels like you've captured a film-set... I love it!
10/22/2006 12:26:38 PM · #13
wow, I'm gonna have to agree with everyone... that's the best collection of candids I've ever seen...

Only thing is that I wish the quality of the video looked better on my screen

But those are definitely some sweet photos, I feel like I was there, reliving the whole thing when I never even went; isn't that the point of wedding photography?

awesome job!

Yes, absolutely pure...joy, so true...many words come to mind...what I enjoyed and admired most was that I felt as though I were part of the crowd, part of this event...something personal comes through with these images...wonderful work.

I just got done watching the slide show. you did a wonderful job at capturing the feel of the celebration of the wedding. and I also wanted to say that I love the music that you chose to put the slideshow too.

These are the kinds of photos that will not only remind the family and friends of that day, but will literally transport them through time to those exact moments again. Well done indeed!

Steve - awesome. Still following your pics, and this collection is great.

WOW - amazing work Steve! I find it hard to believe this was your first wedding. These are way better than the traditional posed wedding shots.
You have captured much more than the event. These images let me feel the raw emotions of a wonderful day. Kudos to you man!

Some great shots there. They both look like they actually *want* to get married.

WOW, what a great suprise. My threads usually get ignored and fade into oblivion...post-haste.

Thank you all for the really nice comments. This was very encouraging. It made my day...week AND month. Cheers!

Ralph-I used my Nikon 28-70mm, 70-200mm VR and the 10.5mm Fisheye. As far as the f-stop...I shoot manual and the reception was held in a penthouse loft with breaking shafts of light, plenty of shadows, sunset from the west, glare from the adjacent buildings and all sorts of lighting oddities, so to answer that question...it was all over the place. I like to keep it shallow but I think I was trying to hit things at f4 if possible for insurance.

island girl1(Tina)-Glad you liked the music. Dominic Miller (Stings guitarist)-Last Dance, Tuck Andress-Man In The Mirror, Bireli LaGrene (w/Sylvain Luc)- Blackbird.
