Having trouble getting correct exposures with my canon rebel xt 350.
Ex... I don't know what aperture or shutter-speed to pick. I take a bunch of pictures and pick the numbers through trial-and-error. Theres gotta be a faster and easier way to do this...
Did all of you learn it through trial-and-error? I think I'm missing something here!
Any help appreciated,

Have you checked the exposure meter (.) ( ) .
Make sure you have (.) selected to start with.
Also is your exposure compensation set in the middle?
What ISO are you shooting at?

| What kind of light is it: camera flash, strobes, or natural light? I guess the 'faster' way would be to use a light meter. You can meter using the camera's auto mode also. Check your camera settings to make sure everything is default and within normal ranges. After a while you will learn what exposure settings to use in what condition... |

These forums are a great place to start! I find great tutorials all over the place ... I come looking for one tip and end up reading through the night.
Personally, I think you should first read up on what aperture and shutter speed are and how they work. Everyone will agree that those are the two most basic functions of taking photographs. Actually, the Rebel XT manual, pages 79-87, give an OK introduction to aperture and shutter speed.
Once you have an idea of how those work, then you can start worrying about ISO, exposure comp and the like. |

Using the cameras meter will get you close but can be fooled. Here is a decent tutorial on how to "read a scene" then you can adjust accordingly.
