So I shorted out my memory card somehow. Anyone ever had this misfortune of doing this? I'm not sure what I did, my boyfriend thinks I turned the camera on before the card was in all the way.

It was a 4 gig... I guess I have to go get a new one right away or I will become extremely depressed. I JUST got this camera and already gave my old one away (which was a piece of junk I never had a problem with EVER). I'm too poor for this. That money could go to a new lens

This sort of thing always happens to me...

sigh.

Find out if it's still under manufacturer's warranty? I did something to my 1gig card right after I got my camera - it just wouldn't read anymore... and the company replaced it.

my computer wouldn't read it at all. my boyfriend is computer savy so he's going to try it at work tomorrow.

Also going to try and get another one since it is so new...

But I got it as a package deal from an ebay company along with my camera... I don't even know if I kept the packaging or if it even had any paperwork with it. My camera is under warranty but I have no idea about the card. I will try and settle it all tomorrow as I have to wake up in ohh... 5 hours and I'm stupid for being awake still.

If you are using a windows machine, ask him to go into Disk Manager, and then repartition the card. The reason your computer wont even read it may be due to a bad partition.

Check what brand it is. Many cards are their own warranty.

Most cards these days come with lifetime warranties and are not even questioned when you contact the appropriate agent.

Thanks so much for all of the advice. I work on a mac. My camera won't even turn on if it's inside so I'm thinking that a def bad sign... lol.

Good to know about the calling the manufacturer. I will def do this.

I found a friend to let me borrow their card so I'm not as panicked as I was last night! LOL. I can take time and mull it over and see if I can get another one before going and spending a chunk of money because i HAVE to have my camera.

Woo hoo! I just have to send it in and I get a new one in 3 days.

How silly I was to think it wouldn't get replaced (maybe because it was my fault? ) lol

It was just as likely NOT your fault. :) There's no guarantee that what you did (if indeed you did what you think) destroyed the card.

They're replacing it because it costs them very little to do so and they want you to buy more of their cards in the future. :)
