The little plastic pins that hold the battery door on my Coolpix 990 have worn down to the point that the door opens from time to time spilling batteries all over the place. The loose door also seems to cause bizarre problems in operation. The automatic setting may open the manual screen. The shut-off position may show the last photo taken instead of shutting the camera off. Pressing hard on the battery door usually stops the weird behavior. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone have a solution? At present I'm using a metal corner bracket held in place with a screw that fits in the tripod mount. It's still a bit loose, but not terrible - though bulky and unattractive. Anyone have the same problem? Anyone found a good solution?

Yea, I had the same problem with my Coolpix... Watch my vid here;

In the end, what I discovered was that screwing a tripod plate to the bottom of the camera helped hold the battery door closed.

I did something similar with an angle bracket and a screw that fits in the tripod socket. I slathered tape over the bracket to make it fat enough to hold the door down, but it's a pain to change batteries (I can unscrew it with a coin). Your way sounds better. I did find several web sites that sell the battery case as an insert, but the instructions for installing it involve taking one side of the camera apart and moving a circuit board aside ("caution, the wires are very delicate so don't put pressure on the board"). For someone with more electronics skills than I have, it might be worth a try. I've seen the insert priced between $18 and $28 on different web sites.

Wanna know a simple way to fix it?

Buy a piece of flat metal and a screw for the tripod mount hole on the camera.

Cut the piece of metal large enough to cover the whole non-rotating part of the camera. Drill a whole trhough the flat piece of metal and screw it to the bottom of the camera.

The piece of metal will now push the battery door completely shut. If not stick a piece of adhesive velcro strip between the metal and the battery door.

Edit: worked for my Coolpix 950 and it's battery door is completely shot.
