I guess it's safe to say this lens will not be walk around lens.

Well you do have to walk around it to get the lens cap off.

I'd guess at least a million. Prestige, custom design, difficulty, rare materials in never before cast sizes.

Maybe not worth it's weight in gold, but probably not far behind.

A few years back I acquired a 1000mm, f/3.9. But it is not nearly so sleek as the one referenced by Judi. It also weighs in around 250 lbs. and is not mounted in a usuable fashion. Mine was made by Perkin-Elmer and is a Baker design. Someday I hope to mount the beast and use it for astronomy.

Holy monkeys. 1000mm f/3.9.

That's gotta ROCK on a 1.5x crop D50... :)

You should submit some pics!

what i don't understand is how they acheived an F/4 ????

isnt F-stop = focal-length/aperture diameter ?

that results in an aperture diameter of what ... 420 mm ??

Sounds about right...but that's also why it's so freaking big. It may not look that huge in those pics, but look at it in relation to people in this one.

reverse a 50 on that thing and you'll have 425:1 macro

EEK a circular polarizer for it? Heck, the VW is probably cheaper... ;) (oops, this is in reference to the other thread which referred to a rumored lens made by Canon which came with a free VW) it's irritating having two concurrent threads...
