Was I right in assuming that THIS would have been hammered as "not meeting the challenge" for Flight by the more literial voters amongst us?

Note : If you don't feel it's proper to post outtakes during the vote, please do not follow the above link... Thank you.

Yes your assumtion is correct. :) I'd be looking for something that's in flight, althouth almost anything that isn't physically "attached" to the ground qualifies I think.

Comments added to the site. I think it gives a bit a feeling of flight.

Sorry, but I gotta agree with Chris. It said photograph something in flight, not giving the feeling of flight. I'm also not wild about the POV and composition. Probably would have been a 4 from me.

Hey, I totally got the feeling of flight from the subject of this shot...

And I left some comments on the shot.

"Go Fly A Kite"

Not an insult, but would you really vote down (for example) a kite because it's "attached" to the ground? I understand that the altitude record for kites is some several times the range of my camera's maximum zoom.

myqyl: Besides the cropping and perspective changes previously mentioned, it's hard for me to guess how it would have been received by the "literal" voters (don't understand them too well myself) but the title is a bigger influence than some want to admit.

"Totem Pole" would not go over too well.

"Godly Flight" or "Vicarious Flying" or something like that probably would have squeezed out an additional 0.527 in your final average.

Literal voters unite! Wings <> "in flight". :)

Thanks all :) That answered my question... I have other shots I'll be able to put up later but I'm trapped in my in-laws basement with my laptop till Wendsday, so I can't do much yet...

faidoi : Point well taken... I was only there a limited time with dozens of totems, so I didn't shoot this at other angles... In the future I'll try to think it through more :)

TooCool : Thanks for the comments... It's the Saxman Village outside Kitchacan Alaska (which I likely spelt wrong)... They are real totems...

GeneralE : I might take one of those names if you don't mind :)

Scott & Chris : I certainly respect your right to interpete challenges and thank you both for candid, honest opinions...

Quoting from a famous song by Pink Floyd ("Learning to fly"), I would have gone with this title:

"Condition grounded but determined to try "

;-)
