I'd love to see what others have to say about their Nikon D70 (D80s). I'm considering a D80. I currently own the F717 and love it.
1. How is the AutoFocus? Can you depend on it for quality photos if you don't want to mess with the apeture/shutter?
2. Is the auto focus fast?
3. How is the battery life?
4. Which lens setup should I buy?
18-135mm F3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Lens
28-80mm F3.3-5.6G AF Zoom Lens
I don't want a monster to carry around -- but I want some cool shots. I'm used to a 5x zoom now. I see the 135mm would be a 7.5X. Is that too big for everyday? My main subjects are landscapes in my backyard and around our lake.
4. Is it a good DSLR for an mid-level photographer? I can manually setup a photo though I am not very skilled at it. I understand the process.
5. Will the transition be easy or difficult?
I'd love any insight.
Thanks,

D70 -
Auto focus is very good. I do use manual focus for macro.
Battery life is Very Good. Not sure but I think I can get 300+ shots on a charge EASY...
I would get the 18-135 ED - I have the 18-200 VR and 105mm f2.8
Good for mid level or beginner.

hmmm... did you mean to say auto metering? either way both work very well...

this is actually going to depend a great deal on the lens itself...
Originally posted by Everyday Renee: 3. How is the battery life? | i've gotten over 400 before having to recharge... can't ask for much better than that...

18-135mm F3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S Lens
since you said you'd wanna do landscapes, you're going to want the 18mm, for sure...

yes. plenty to play with in the auto modes, and even more to learn about the manual modes... lots of room to grow.

i'd say pretty easy.... a week or two in and you'll wonder why you waited so long...
