Hi
I am starting web site for selling some Indian Handicraft. I have limited budget hence cannot pay any professional web designer.

I have reasonable skill level to put a decent website. I need advice on where to find more resources for web designing on net.

Secondly
what will be simplest way to implement ON Line Selling on my web site without much coding. I mean how can i sell goods on my web site without writing much codes that may be required for on line selling.

I mean to say all ecommerce are handled by some one else

I just want to get started and once i am feel i am getting response i can shift to a more professional designed web site

Are you near a school or college? There are some fantastic kids out there who would love to do a web site for your just to have in their portfolio. Give it a try!

If you have resaonable web dev skills I would suggest first chosing your platforms, and then cobble together the components you need from shareware/freeware site. Perhaps get some assistance on asthetics, if you need it. Look at sites such as //www.hotscrips.com, or google for what you want - e.g 'php shopping cart'.

Hi
In past i have created web site that have been used for showcasing my products. They were simple yet good good looking website serving the purpose of showcasing my products.

These websites were used for only showcasing my product. They were made using dreamweaver and were simple HTML. They did not involve any scripting.

Hotscripts is a good recommendation. You stated that you have a "reasonable" skill level. I'm afraid your generalization may be a little vague which is the reason for few responses. Do you have Dreamweaver? If not, I highly recommend purchasing it. I've used several web design applications, but Dreamweaver is decidedly the best one I've used.

What type of site are you looking for? Flash? HTML? ASP? PHP? What languages are you familiar with? Personally I'm a Flash/PHP/MySQL guy and I use sites like

PHP.net
actionscript.org
flashkit.com
MySQL.com

I also rely very heavily on good ole fashioned googling if there is something in particular I'm looking for. I also have several books on the above listed languages and some books on basic design principles.

Sorry for the vague response, but perhaps if you were a little more specific, we could be of more assistance. There are several web designers/developers here.

First of all i am sorry for having mislead everyone when i said have reasonable skill level.
I simply know HTML and nothing else.
I am able to make reasonably good looking web site with HTML.

I will prefer as of now HTML based web site , where i can offer my goods for sale.

I just dont how to accept Credit Card Payments for my products.

I just need a simple solution to start with and than i can ask some one to design a more professional Ecommerce web site

That will be a little trickier. My host offers an option for a shopping cart and check-out system. I haven't used it yet, but plan on doing so in the near future. You may want to see what options your host offers. As far as I know, there is no way to do what you want to do with simple HTML, but then again I've not researched it very thoroughly.

This is probably your best option. Look for a hosting company that has shopping cart functionality already set up and offered for you, so that the setup/configuration/administration of it falls to someone (hopefully) trained in the secure handling of information like credit card numbers. You can go two ways with this, either a local ISP / hosting who offers this as a value-add to its members, or one of the larger online do-it-yourself eCommerce communities. The latter might expose you to a larger audience off the bat, YMMV.

Failing that, there are a number of off-the-shelf eCommerce/shopping cart suites that aren't too complicated to install and get running. Costs vary by the features and support, but many of the lower-end ones offer fairly clear instructions on "what you need to do to do this safely". Whichever route you choose, if you don't have a solid background in information security, I'd advise against trying to "grow your own" -- not only do you risk losing potential customers wary of possible insecurities, the financial burden you'd incur if someone managed to successfully hack your site and obtain the credit card information can be severe.

the web selling is not hard.
get a paypal business account (free) - that gives you access to their shopping cart.

breezebrowser pro, a photo program, has built in template to give you access to the paypal cart. I think the prog is $70 or so. You will have to know SOME HTML to modify the templates for your product/prices/payapl account.

I use it to sell photos, but you could just as easily sell what's IN the photos, you know?

see //www.viewandchoose.com/ and click on katie and chris for a sample of what it does, how it works.

I use the space for this that comes with my internet account, and paypal takes their typical 2.9% but that's all the cost there is.

If you want to do more coding you can implement as much as you'd like, make it as fancy as you want, etc. The shopping cart is done, so all you need is the link info and paypal will give you that.

as for credit cards, until you have some volume (like thousands a month in sales) paypal works well. for internet i think it's included. for me to take CC from anyone it's $20/month plus the 2.9% (virtual terminal they call it)

//www.zen-cart.com/ --- Zen Cart is awesome. I've used it for a few projects. It's well documented and put together and will intergrate with Paypal and other payment services.

Another vote for Paypal. Its very simple and if all you want to do is have people pay you online by credit card there is no monthly fee. I use it on my website. The monthly fee is for more advanced credit card features - if you want to accept credit cards over the phone, in person etc...

Paypal provide both the shopping cart and the credit card processing for you - all you need to do is have the appropriate links on your site to add an item to the Paypal cart. Their help section explains how to do it....

I can also recommend jalbum - its free software (designed for photo galleries) and some of the skins have Paypal support built in. I did a bit of hacking and added Paypal to one of the skins that didn't have it built in... very very customisable :-)
