A question, if I have what I think is a really good picture, but I'm certain lots of people will think it is fake, mark it down for it or call for it to be disqualified, should I post it ?

Or should I hit submit twice and get two new threads started about it ? [sorry]

Go for it Gordon! I vote on the photos as they are and make a comment in that regard as to why I suspect it. But whether it is or isn't, is up to the experts.

sure, but why warn everyone? why not just do it and then see how people react?

personally im here for the reaction rather than the prize.

you could say that i dont care what people think and i wish to go against the grain of ignorance.

you could say that i dont know how to take a good picture, am unwilling to learn, and that i am too lazy to set something worthwhile up.

Because I got to read about all the grief the 'Got Toast?' shot suffered. I wonder how many voters/ photographers actually follow the
forums anyway.

Well then it only matters if you really really want to win. The admins read the forums and if you can show them that your photo is not a fake as you say then your photo will not be disqualified.

As for the suckers that don't bother reading the forums, screw em. :)

I think the only reason it got that reaction was because a lot of people here are not familiar enough with what photography is capable to know that was possible.

as far as figuring out how many people read the forums, try an experiment. put up a link to something compelling in another thread (don't warn people you're going to do this), and then put a hit counter on that target page. at least you'll know if only like 20 people are reading, or a hundred.

Gordon,

Keep in mind that it appears that a majority of the voters don't participate in the forums...

As posted in your other thread (now locked)

DO NOT post an image that you will be entering in the challenge -- or for that matter, one similar enough to identify yours in the challenge.

If you think people are going to assume it's fake, contact your admins and send us the proof -- so we can figure out how to handle it should the situation arise.

Drew

PS - Gordon, please try to make sure you're only single-clicking the buttons for the forum. Also, if a page appears not to load after clicking, double check to make sure the post hasn't already been made before posting again.

had no intention of posting it. I'll send you some proof in a minute
though, just to pre-empt the whole argument.

Yup, my proxies at work threw a wobbly and submitted it twice. Comes of having multiple layers of proxies and firewalls I guess. Sorry for any confusion it caused.

The best way to solve this is to use JScript on your pages to dis-allow multiple submits. There are a lot of scripts out there for this, let me know if you'd like me to link to some of them.

So I did submit the picture, and I'm getting the expected response, of lots of comments saying 'fake' and 'not possible with a camera'

Also getting my lowest average of any competition, so I assume a lot of people are voting thinking it is a fake. Or it could just be it doesn't fit the challenge very well :)

I thought it was kool and put together very well.

ditto. ignore the insolent masses. it's a very well done shot!

I'm impressed, Gordon. You can fool most of the people most of the time. {g} I do kind of wonder at the trend in your work of leaving a little 'signature' somewhere. Probably not exactly in line with how the site is supposed to work.
