Anyone know of any good and cost effective online shops?

Their site is down due to some kind of power outtage and I need to make certain that I can get a 30D delivered by Friday. (I am going the next day air route.)

Anyway, with their site down as long as it has been, I am mildly concerned that they might be unable to fulfill a next day order, if it comes back up this evening or even tomorrow morning.

Help me DPC Online Shoppers, you're my only hope...

Adorama is also a reputable on-line dealer, similar to B&H. Good luck!

sigma4less.com.

I like one thing about BH - they always have stuff in stock. But they also regularly charge 75-100 bucks more for lenses I look at than other sites. Have ordered a lot of lenses from sigma4less and never got burned. Good luck.

ps - no, they don't just sell sigma

I use either BHPhoto or Adorama after adding shipping both places differ. I will go with the cheaper price. Sometimes it's Adorama and sometimes BHPhoto.

Rush order is tough to say. If it's a hot item you must always order early.

I've waited 2 months for an external harddrive and 2 + month for a lens but glad I ordered very early. I got the harddrive 2 days before a trip, but I already both a couple extra memory cards :(. Lens didn't make it before I left.

42nd street photo is pretty good. My dad told me to use them because he used to order stuff over the phone from them in the old days...lol

Ordering Canon cameras stay away from Dell. Usually backordered. I ordered my Pentax from them and got it promptly. No problems what so ever.

If you want to make sure you get it on time why not buy it from a brick and mortar store? Ritz, Best Buy, Fry's, etc.

Amazon actually has a better return policy than B&H. Plus, you can get free shipping on an item like that.

I've used Sigma4Less twice. The second time they showed an item in stock and I paid for it. Turns out it wasn't in stock. Well, they got the item and upgraded shipping to me so I can have it for my NY trip. They are also a bit cheaper than most other places.

Don't forget to check Resellers ratings before ordering from a website that you have never tried.

I didn't order my Bigma from Sigma4Less because I wasn't sure if it was possibly grey/gray market or not. I wanted to make sure I bought it from some place that Sigmas' warranty would not be likely declined.

I have 4 weeks to fiddle with the camera before an upcoming wedding. I want to get it as quickly as possible so that I can work with it as long as possible.

This weekend, I am headed out with my neighbor (who just got the new Sony DSLR) and we were going to do some nature photography. It'll be one of those "Trial by Fire" things to get used to the difference.

I understand the 30D is very similar in feel to the Elan 7n. So... it shouldn't be that great a learning curve.

Should I order the Battery Grip?

I am already considering buying an extra battery and will have a shedload of extra 'AA' batteries for the flash unit. I don't want to run out of juice and I don't want to be swapping out batteries like crazy either.

www.onecall.com is also a good place, they're based out of the North West.

Are the cheap no-name batteries worth it?

$20 versus almost $50.

I am tempted, but I am also skeptical.

Over the years I have used either B&H or Calumet. Probably in a ratio of 2 to 1.
Both are reliable.
Doubtful they are the cheapest.
But they are both solidly reliable.

As good alternatives to B&H:

- 17th Street Photo
- Calumet Photo

Both are exceptional.

I second Amazon.com for fast shipment. I bought my 70-200IS from them. Ordered it in the afternoon, and I was shooting with it the next day!
